Background and History
Creation and the Ancient Era
According to the True Word Steles revealed in Divine Firmament Land, humans were originally created by great Demon Race powers in the Demon Race’s own form, but without demon traits or innate gifts. They served the Demon Race’s Heavenly Court as administrators and vassals, while their Dao Veins were sealed and their lifespan restricted. Some humans with innate Dao Veins were selected by demons to help govern humanity. 1837
The Human Race’s later history is not defined solely by this origin. A later account stresses that the Demon Race created the first humans, but humanity also remade itself through its own civilization, struggle, and choices. 2502
During the Ancient Era, the Demon Race ruled heaven and earth, while most humans could not cultivate and were regarded by other races as food. Suiren, the first Human Emperor, rose to protect humanity alongside eight worthy ministers. 1338 1632
Humanity’s rise depended on collective innovations rather than innate talent:
- Cangjie’s writing enabled people without direct perception of the Great Dao to study and transmit its principles. 1632
- The Vein-Opening Pill gave ordinary humans a path to cultivation, overcoming the limitation of sealed or blocked Dao Veins. Its early history was blood-stained, but later generations improved its materials, safety, and output. 1633
- Qi-and-blood Pulse-Opening and Military School arts allowed the strength of ordinary people to be organized on a vast scale. 1758
Yu Beidou recounts that Suiren killed his teacher Bu Lian, fabricated Bu Lian’s final divination, and used it to justify a decisive war against the Demon Race. Humanity won that war, expelled the Demon Race from The Present World, and began the Remote Antiquity Era as the world’s ruling race. 1339
Expansion and the Human Realm
The second Human Emperor, Youxiong Clan, constructed the Gate of Ten Thousand Demons, severing the Demon Race’s direct route to counterattack The Present World. He also bound humanity to resist the Demon Race collectively, declaring that those who defied the agreement would be opposed by all under heaven. 1769 2250
In the Middle Antiquity Era, Human Emperor Lieshan entered the Demon Realm through the gate, slew great demons, and founded Sui Ming City, named for Suiren. The city became the first great Human Race city in the Heavenly Prison world and has never fallen; it is also called the Unfallen City. 1769
The Human Race and Aquatic Race had previously fought together against the Demon Race, but their relationship deteriorated after the external threat receded. Lieshan later drove the Dragon Emperor and Dragon Race into the Cang Sea, solidifying humanity’s position as master of the world while creating the long-term divide between the Human and Sea races. 1100 1824
Ancient sages also implemented the Grain Rain Plan, secretly scattering human communities across the myriad heavens and worlds before the decisive war against the Demon Race. The humans of the Floating Continent descended from these survivors; despite their separate development, they are stated to have no essential difference from humans of The Present World. 2040
Physiology and Identification
Humans generally share a near-human form with the Aquatic, Sea, and Demon races, a resemblance that has enabled contact and confusion between races for millennia. 99 1773
- Aquatic Race distinction — Aquatic people possess permanent traits such as scales, barbels, or shells, which manifest their innate talents. 99
- Demon Race distinction — Demons possess demon marks and a demon aura; their marks are innate dharma seals tied to their Supernatural Powers. 1822
- Cultivation anatomy — Human cultivators possess structures including the Heaven-Connecting Palace, Five Palaces Sea, and Star-Hidden Sea, unlike the Sea Race’s single sea of consciousness. 880
- Age and cultivation — Human vitality and blood generally begin declining after fifty. Those who have not reached Divine Presence by sixty are ordinarily considered unlikely to cross the divide between humanity and heaven. 1864
Society and Civilization
Humanity is divided among nations, sects, clans, schools, armies, and organizations, yet retains an overarching Human Race identity despite differences in language, custom, and political allegiance. 1784
National systems have become a major engine of Human Race development: states gather resources, produce powerhouses, and channel the momentum of Humanity’s Torrent. 1209
Human unity is strongest on racial battlefields, not in ordinary politics. Nations frequently wage war against one another, and appeals to shared humanity can be used either as genuine solidarity or as a weapon of coercion. 1492
The Human Race’s legal and moral traditions formally recognize ordinary people as deserving protection. Han Gui’s laws were founded first to protect mortals, while the Legalist spirit remains influential in the laws of the various states and the Three Punishments Palace. 2107
Cultivation and Martial Development
Humanity’s cultivation culture emphasizes acquired achievement over fixed talent.
- Vein-Opening Pill — Opens a cultivation path for ordinary people and remains an irreplaceable foundation of the Human Race’s extraordinary civilization. 1633
- Daoist Arts — Originated through imitation of spells and Supernatural Powers, then developed into a broad system for applying the Dao and the rules of heaven and earth. 1919
- Supernatural Powers — Human cultivators may discover Divine Ability Seeds within their Inner Palaces, but most cannot obtain one; no single technique is universally accessible to all humans. 881
- Military cultivation — Military formations and collective martial methods allow ordinary people and cultivators to transform into coordinated battlefield strength. 1758
- Human potential — Human cultivation incorporates the essence of many races through the Vein-Opening Pill system, allowing people to seize what Heaven does not grant them naturally. 2503
