The instant Urashiki's fishhook lit up, Toneri and Hanabi both sensed that something was wrong.
The problem was not a change in Chakra intensity—Urashiki's Dojutsu Power remained at the same level as before, without any sudden surge. The problem was the direction. In that instant, his Dojutsu Power split apart. Most of it remained locked onto Toneri's force field, but an exceedingly thin strand of needle-sharp Chakra pierced through the folding spatial net that was closing in. That strand did not attack Toneri, nor did it attack Hanabi. Its target lay deeper—in the Chakra relay path connecting the two of them.
Urashiki latched onto the middle section of that path with perfect accuracy. His fishhook was like a precisely cast anchor, its tip sinking into the Chakra circuit between Toneri and Hanabi. With an almost imperceptible flick of his wrist, it hooked onto that invisible cable. In that instant, Toneri felt the Chakra within his body moving against his will—his output of Dojutsu Power was still operating, but part of the Chakra in the relay path was being drawn by that hook, siphoned from the channel linking him and Hanabi toward Urashiki. It did not feel like an attack. It felt as though someone had severed a passage inside his body that he had never cut off, and the intercepted Chakra was now flowing along the fishing line into Urashiki's hand like water down a sloping ditch.
Hanabi reacted at the same time. Her hand seals changed as she tried to cut off the hooked relay path, but her Chakra deflected the moment it touched the edge of the fishhook—the space around the hook was wrapped in an extremely thin, nearly vacuum-like layer of energy, and any Chakra approaching it simply slid away.
"I told you before I came—" Urashiki's
