Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Yang Release and embryonic All Things in Nature Sage Mode 221 Perfected the balance of Yin and Yang, then synthesized a first wisp of Sage Art Chakra. The embryonic mode lasted only seconds and imposed an immense mental burden.
Dragon Vein-assisted Sage Art 237 Activated the Rōran Dragon Vein and integrated its energy with polarity-based Yin–Yang power, gaining the basis to form weapons, barriers, and mental interference.
Evolved Rinnegan / expanded Causality perception 439 During the first duel with Isshiki, his Rinnegan evolved enough to perceive Isshiki's causal threads and the foreign network bound to his vessel.
All Things in Nature Sage Mode / first success of the Immortal Seal 446 Unified Dragon Vein Chakra, shrine maiden spiritual power, Mōryō's dark Chakra, and sealing principles into his ultimate Sage Mode.
Wedge-origin adaptation 515 Digesting Isshiki's origin changed Causality Threads from calculation-dependent constructs into intuitive extensions of thought, enabling causality grafting.
Six Paths level 520 577 Reconstructed his body and integrated Isshiki's essence, gaining access to Isshiki's ocular techniques, combat instincts, and space-time abilities, albeit below Isshiki's original output.
Kekkei Mōra 746 Digestion of the Chakra Fruit transformed his body and origin on a qualitative level; he ceased to be fully human.
Shibai's successor / boundary-layer authority 827 829 Integrated Shibai's trajectory and residual imprints, became the new “contour” within Shibai's dimension, and acquired authority to operate its boundary layer and causal restructuring program.

Appearance

Cang is outwardly unassuming despite the pressure of his Chakra. He has been described as a lean man in dark combat clothing or black robes, with silver or gray-white hair in later appearances; after becoming a Kekkei Mōra, his outward face remained largely unchanged despite his internal transformation. 408 439 746 774

  • Deep violet or purplish-gold Rinnegan, later manifesting as a distinctive Rice-Shaped Eye during high-level causality perception. 451 543 820
  • Usually wears dark robes or a fitted combat outfit. 408 439
  • Developed an unstable dark-purple mark on his forehead after surviving Isshiki's Wedge. 451
  • His presence after absorbing Isshiki's origin is compared to that of a humanoid Tailed Beast. 524
  • As a Kekkei Mōra, his body possesses pale-violet marrow, vastly reinforced bones, and transformed meridians. 746

Personality

Cang is patient, analytical, and exceptionally controlled. He prefers to shape an opponent's choices through information, timing, and imperceptible causal pressure rather than seek a direct contest of force. His long campaign against Isshiki was built around making interference appear to be ordinary accidents and background noise. 416 420 423

He remains composed under extreme danger, including when Isshiki identified him as a target and when his own body was close to collapse. Even so, he is willing to make desperate calculations when survival or the future of the Ninja World demands it. 437 445 449

Though he often treats conflicts as a chessboard, Cang assumes personal responsibility for those under his protection. He bore the backlash of falsifying death records to preserve people he had saved, and later erased his own place in the world's causality to prevent future conflict. 609 776

Abilities & Skills

Causality Perception and Interference

Cang's Rinnegan grants him the ability to perceive Causality Threads: connections between actions, decisions, events, and souls. He can identify critical junctions in those threads and exert limited pressure to redirect outcomes. 614

  • Predicts attacks by observing the likely focal point and trajectory of an opponent's Chakra before a technique manifests. 103
  • Manipulates perception and memory by altering causal records, including Danzō's understanding of the erased Root Base No. 7. 413
  • Creates causal deflection fields that turn minor deviations into meaningful strategic obstacles. 416
  • Can interfere with the internal causal priorities of an incoming technique, causing its effects to conflict with one another. 444
  • Later gained the ability to graft, converge, and mark causality directly rather than calculating every thread beforehand. 515 516
  • Cannot simply rewrite the past; his power works by perceiving and nudging the course of existing causality. 614

All Things in Nature Sage Mode

Cang's personal Sage Mode combines natural energy with perfectly balanced Yin and Yang Chakra. Its final form is founded on the Dragon Vein and controlled through sealing principles. 221 446

  • Uses Sage Art: All Things in Nature: Causality Cycle to introduce uncertainty and exploit weak points in an opponent's technique. 443
  • Can temporarily reweave the causal rules within a large-scale attack, disrupting its binding, disintegration, or energy-stability effects. 444
  • Draws on Dragon Vein energy to heal catastrophic injuries and restore depleted Chakra. 445
  • Initially lasted only seconds and risked petrification from unstable natural-energy intake. 221
  • Places tremendous strain on his body when pushed toward Six Paths-level output. 415

Sealing Techniques and Dragon Vein Control

Cang treats sealing as a system for defining, dividing, connecting, and ordering energy, space, time, and concepts rather than merely imprisoning targets. 446

  • Constructed a living sealing barrier within himself to stabilize Dragon Vein Chakra and opposing Yin–Yang forces. 446
  • Uses sealing arrays to deflect high-level attacks and establish defensive fields. 447
  • Maintained a seal around Isshiki's Wedge fragments while gradually shifting part of its upkeep onto his own natural energy metabolism. 477 479
  • Can use the Dragon Vein as both a life-support system and a battlefield-scale energy reserve. 451 445

Rinnegan and Space-Time Techniques

Cang's Rinnegan developed alongside his causality abilities, eventually allowing him to analyze, counter, and repurpose Ōtsutsuki techniques. 439 504

  • Erased several of Isshiki's most dangerous Daikokuten spikes with the Rinnegan. 443
  • Used Sage Art: Yin Release Lightning School as a causality-linked reconnaissance net to track Isshiki's movement. 506
  • Awakened space-time folding acceleration after adaptation to the Wedge. 506
  • Opens controlled spatial passages, including one that bypassed Amado's outer defenses without triggering their alerts. 816
  • After integrating Isshiki's essence, can access Isshiki's ocular techniques and space-time abilities at roughly seventy to eighty percent of Isshiki's original output. 575 577

Soul Manipulation

Cang can use the Rinnegan and Causality Threads to operate on soul fragments and the records maintained by the Pure Land. 609 614

  • Preserves fragments from people whose deaths he interrupted, preventing their souls from fully passing on. 609
  • Creates false souls carrying a person's memories and abilities up to the point of their recorded death. 609
  • Sends those false souls to the Pure Land so the death record is completed while the real individual remains alive. 609
  • Bears the personal backlash of this intervention rather than shifting its cost onto those he saves. 609

Kekkei Mōra and Shibai Integration

After consuming the Chakra Fruit, Cang's body became a Kekkei Mōra—an existence for whom power is intrinsic rather than borrowed. 746

  • Absorbs incoming Chakra techniques through an invisible protective layer and can absorb energy directly through physical contact. 774
  • Possesses instinctive, qualitative control over his transformed Chakra and body. 746
  • Integrated Shibai's data and preserved signal into his origin, strengthening and stabilizing his existence structure. 827 828
  • Can establish selective channels between Shibai's dimension and ordinary space, with authority over the boundary layer's permeability. 827 828
  • Accepted responsibility for Shibai's program to restructure the starfield's causal structures. 829

Relationships

  • Zhi Li — Cang's disciple and closest operational partner. She helped stabilize him after his battle with Isshiki, prepared barriers for later confrontations, and was one of only three people who retained memory of him after his causal self-erasure. 451 502 776
  • Ōtsutsuki Isshiki — Cang's principal adversary and eventual source of Ōtsutsuki origin power. Their conflict began with Cang's long-term causal interference, escalated into repeated duels, and ended with Cang absorbing Isshiki's essence. 416 439 520
  • Hatake Sakumo / White Fang — Trusted intelligence operative and defender of Angkor Fortress. Sakumo carried out surveillance orders, coordinated Cang's rescue, and defended the fortress while Cang was incapacitated. 414 451 460
  • Uchiha Kagami — Loyal ally and fortress administrator who carries out Cang's plans, guides newcomers into the fortress, and helps coordinate its defenses. 266 413 462
  • Uchiha ShisuiA major pillar in Cang's intended future for the Uchiha. Cang deliberately fostered Shisui's stable Mangekyō development and later trained him directly. 413 774
  • Light — Student and combat collaborator whose Rinnegan-based analysis Cang continuously tests and refines. She helped stabilize Cang during his integration with Shibai's residual imprints. 774 829
  • AmadoA useful but monitored former Kara figure. Cang tracked his new stronghold, inspected Shibai's remains in Amado's possession, and made clear that Amado would remain under observation. 815 816
  • Shibai — Cang's predecessor and existential counterpart. Shibai identified Cang as the endpoint of his path, transferred his trajectory and authority, then left Cang as the successor to his work. 827 828

Story Role / Major Arcs

Operator of Angkor Fortress

Cang oversees Angkor Fortress through a causality-based surveillance network. He directs Uchiha development, manipulates Konoha's information environment, and positions Shisui as a future leader capable of uniting rather than destroying. 413

After identifying Jigen as a concealed foreign threat, Cang begins a campaign of surveillance, misinformation, and subtle causal interference. His objective is not merely to obstruct Isshiki, but to force him to reveal his behavioral patterns, vessel candidates, and vulnerabilities. 414 416 420 426

Conflict with Isshiki

When Isshiki abandons secondary vessels and turns his primary causal thread toward Cang, Cang accepts the confrontation at the Frostsilent Ice Plains. Their first battle exposes the immense difference between Isshiki's direct power and Cang's reliance on causality, Sage Art, and sealing. 437 439 440

Cang survives by escalating All Things in Nature Sage Mode, calling upon the Dragon Vein, and forming a degraded pseudo Truth-Seeking Orb. The confrontation leaves him critically wounded and infected by the Wedge's influence. 445 446 449 451

Wedge Survival and Second Duel

For three years, Cang suppresses, analyzes, and digests the Wedge fragments embedded within him. He converts the seal's maintenance burden into part of his own metabolism while probing the Wedge's reactions and learning from Isshiki's origin. 477 479 503

At Ancient Reef Island, Cang and Isshiki resume their battle. Cang counters Sukunahikona, adapts to Isshiki's Golden Wedge Liberation, extracts a fragment of the Wedge core, and evolves his Causality Threads into a more intuitive, rule-defying ability. 504 506 507 515

Harvest and Ascension

After defeating Isshiki, Cang reconstructs his body with absorbed Ōtsutsuki essence, retrieves knowledge of the Small Ten-Tails, and distributes part of Isshiki's origin power to his allies at Angkor Fortress. 520 524

He later consumes a Chakra Fruit and achieves Kekkei Mōra, transforming into an existence beyond the Six Paths level. 741 746

Causality Erasure and Starfield Expedition

To prevent future conflict centered on himself, Cang gathers and conceals the traces of his causality, causing almost the entire Ninja World to forget him. Light, Shisui, and Zhi Li alone retain their memories. 776

During the later expedition beyond the Ninja World, Cang identifies a connection between Shibai's remains and the origins of Momoshiki, Kinshiki, and Urashiki. After entering a dimension beyond ordinary direction, distance, and time, he meets Shibai, receives his legacy, and accepts the role of successor. 821 827 829
