Background

Jiraiya received the title of one of Konoha's Legendary Sannin from Hanzō of the Salamander after their earlier conflict. He embraces the title rather than holding a grudge over that defeat. 204

After the Second Shinobi World War, Jiraiya began training in the Sage Mode of Mount Myōboku. He could sense and absorb natural energy, but repeatedly failed to maintain the required balance between natural, physical, and spiritual energy; without Fukasaku and Shima watching over him, these failures would have petrified him. 232
