Yu Xiaogang is widely known across the continent as the "Master of Theory," a title he earned by combining common knowledge with his own ideas, though others view his theories with skepticism 16. Believing that students with Innate Full Soul Power must possess Twin Martial Souls, he encounters Tang San at Notting Academy and successfully takes him on as his first disciple 16. He devises a strict cultivation and combat plan for Tang San centered around control and lethal poison 20. Throughout Tang San's schooling, Yu Xiaogang repeatedly clashes—both ideologically and through proxy spars between Tang San and Xu Yuan—with Xu Yuan, whose unorthodox life-path cultivation repeatedly defeats Tang San and challenges the validity of Yu Xiaogang's life's work 18 19 20 29 30.
