History

Tang San grew up under the care of his distant father, Tang Hao, while handling domestic work such as cooking and laundry. Tang Hao's coldness left him desperate for familial affection and prone to blaming himself for failing to earn it. 19

At the Martial Soul awakening ceremony, Tang San awakened Blue Silver Grass and was confirmed to possess Innate Full Soul Power. He chose to pursue the path of a Soul Master even when Tang Hao initially forbade it, encouraged by Su Yun's defense of his right to choose. Tang Hao eventually permitted him to attend the Soul Master Academy with Su Yun. 7 9 10

After Su Yun confided that he possessed Twin Martial Souls, Tang San set aside the secrecy taught by the Tang Sect and revealed his own Clear Sky Hammer. The shared secret deepened his trust in Su Yun and led him to treat Su Yun as someone no longer outside his inner circle. 14 15

Tang San initially planned to develop Blue Silver Grass through poison and hidden-weapon applications. Following Su Yun's advice, he instead considered a support-and-evolution path built around the Martial Soul's low consumption and vitality, including potential evolution into the Blue Silver King, Blue Silver Emperor, or even an immortal herb. 15 16

After losing a sparring match to Su Yun, Tang San became acutely aware of the difference in their combat strength. He demanded a future rematch and intensified his training, determined to become strong enough to protect Su Yun. 17 18

Following Tang Hao's disappearance, Tang San formally recognized Su Yun as his younger sister and gave him the Mysterious Heaven Skill notebook and knowledge of his hidden weapons. He later forged two Silent Sleeve Arrows for them before the pair departed to seek Soul Rings. 20 21 23 25

During the Soul Beast Forest hunt, Tang San fought alongside Su Yun against the 1,500-year Terror Aggregate. He suffered severe injuries from its Shadow Energy and mental attacks, fell unconscious, and was saved when Su Yun used a Rejuvenation Pill. The experience strengthened his resolve to pursue a thousand-year first Soul Ring. 32 37

Personality

Tang San is polite, earnest, and highly responsive to genuine kindness. He apologizes sincerely when he believes he has wronged someone and places enormous value on trust, particularly after Su Yun shares secrets with him. 4 14 24

His upbringing leaves him deeply insecure about his worth and strength. Su Yun's superior Martial Souls and combat ability trigger envy and inferiority, but also motivate him to train harder rather than withdraw. 12 15 18 35

He is intensely protective of Su Yun. He reacts angrily when others mock Su Yun, is willing to fight dangerous Soul Beasts at Su Yun's side, and repeatedly vows to keep his recognized sister safe. 20 29 32 35

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses two Martial Souls, a rare trait he initially concealed.

  • Blue Silver Grass — His primary Martial Soul; he uses it for entanglement and obstruction despite its widespread reputation as a useless Martial Soul. 7 29
  • Clear Sky Hammer — A black hammer Martial Soul revealed only to Su Yun. Summoning it initially consumes a substantial portion of his internal energy. 14 15
  • He plans to cultivate Blue Silver Grass first and delay adding rings to his second Martial Soul until his body is strong enough to bear high-level rings. 15

Mysterious Heaven Skill

A cultivation technique Tang San acquired from a mysterious old man and credits for his Innate Full Soul Power. He later shares its notebook and cultivation guidance with Su Yun. 20 21

  • Circulates internal energy for cultivation and physical techniques.
  • Its disrupted circulation leaves him vulnerable to strong mental attacks, as seen against the Terror Aggregate's Void Shock. 33

Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track

A movement technique focused on creating deceptive afterimages rather than pure speed. 17

  • Used to evade danger and travel at high speed. 19 33
  • Tang San considers it distinct from Su Yun's Shave, which is faster but less focused on misdirection. 17

Purple Demon Eye

A visual cultivation technique Tang San practices alongside the Mysterious Heaven Skill. 13

  • Enhances his observational ability.
  • He compares Su Yun's proposed perception-based training to a combination of Purple Demon Eye and Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track. 22

Hidden Weapons

Tang San possesses Tang Sect hidden-weapon methods and uses them in training and combat. 21 22

  • Helped Su Yun train Kenbunshoku Haki by throwing wooden blocks rather than harmful projectiles. 22
  • Prepared to use his Silent Sleeve Arrow when members of the Self-Strengthening Group insulted Su Yun. 29

Equipment / Items

  • Silent Sleeve Arrow — A concealed projectile weapon forged by Tang San; he makes two, keeping one and giving one to Su Yun. 25
  • Mysterious Heaven Skill notebook — A written record of the Mysterious Heaven Skill, including the eight extraordinary meridians, given to Su Yun as a sign of trust. 20 21

Relationships

  • Su Yun — Recognized younger sister; Tang San believes Su Yun is a girl and becomes deeply attached to him. He entrusts Su Yun with his Twin Martial Souls, Mysterious Heaven Skill, and hidden-weapon knowledge, while repeatedly swearing to protect him. 14 20 21 24 35
  • Tang Hao — Father. Tang San seeks his affection and approval despite years of neglect; Tang Hao eventually allows him to pursue Soul Master training before disappearing from the household. 10 19 23
  • Old Jack — Village chief who supports Tang San's decision to attend the Soul Master Academy and intervenes during his conflict with Tang Hao. 9 10
  • Jiang Min — Leader of the temporary Self-Strengthening Hunting Team that Tang San and Su Yun join under aliases. 28 29
