Background
At fifteen, Kyros killed the murderer responsible for his best friend's death. He was arrested and also struck King Riku with a blunt weapon before his execution could be carried out. King Riku instead sent him to Dressrosa's Colosseum, promising freedom after 100 victories. Kyros fulfilled that condition in less than half a year, but remained because of his guilt and the public stigma attached to his past. By the time Yoriichi and Kuzan encountered him, he had accumulated 440 consecutive wins. 32 34
Yoriichi sought Kyros out for a private spar after recognizing the practical quality of his swordsmanship. Although Kyros immediately understood the vast gap in their strength, he retained his fighting spirit. He initially refused Yoriichi's invitation to join the Marines because he considered himself a murderer, but Kuzan persuaded him that he could use his strength to protect civilians and fight pirates. Kyros accepted and left the Colosseum behind. 33 34
Appearance
At the time of his Colosseum career, Kyros was a tall, heavily muscled seventeen-year-old, estimated to stand over two meters. His equipment was far plainer than that of his opponents, reflecting his status as a confined gladiator. 32
- Wore tattered cloth clothing with only a lower-body armor skirt in the arena. 32
- Carried a twin-bladed greatsword as a gladiator; later used a Marine greatsword/longsword. 32 159
- Has a small moustache in adulthood. 523
- Wore the Marine Cloak of Justice after joining the service. 154 228
Personality
Kyros is straightforward, earnest, and deeply affected by guilt over his past. He remained in the Colosseum despite earning his freedom because he believed he did not deserve to return to society. His decision to join the Marines stemmed from a desire to turn his strength toward protecting others. 32 34
He is proud but not arrogant. Kyros repeatedly recognizes the limits of his ability—particularly the widening gap between himself and Yoriichi—and resolves to improve rather than resent it. He declined offers of Logia Devil Fruits because he did not want to become unable to swim and believed the fruits would better strengthen the New Marines in another person's hands. 182 253 359
His commitment to justice can make him impulsive. He intervened against corrupt Marines, slave traders, and the planned arrest of pregnant women on Baterilla Island, but his encounter with Saint Mjosgard exposed his difficulty reconciling Marine duty with the World Government's abuses. 54 61 204 236
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
Kyros is a battle-hardened swordsman whose style was forged through hundreds of real Colosseum matches rather than formal dojo training.
- Defeated the Berserk Sea Bear, an armored five-meter gladiator, in a single blow. 32
- His combat style emphasizes refined, practical movements developed through fighting “in mud and blood.” 159
- Killed Sheep Herder Kappei with one thrust after Kappei captured Bell-mère. 163
- Could suppress groups of pirates while defending himself, though strong executives and Lou Winter were able to injure him. 182
- Was outmatched by Issho's Gravity-Gravity Fruit and by Shimotsuki Koushirou's Haki-enhanced counterattacks. 149 160
Haki
Kyros possesses both Observation Haki and Armament Haki.
- Used Observation Haki to detect Doflamingo's nearly transparent threads before they struck him. 331
- Infuses his sword with Armament Haki in combat. 331
- His Armament Haki and Tekkai enabled him to endure multiple injuries while fighting the Giant Soldier Pirates. 182
- The clash between Roger and Yoriichi's Conqueror's Haki severely affected him, leaving him exhausted and barely conscious. 190
Marine Six Styles
Kyros incorporated Marine techniques into his swordsman-focused combat style.
- Uses Soru for high-speed movement and evasive maneuvers. 160 182
- Uses Tekkai to harden his body against attacks. 160 182
- Uses Moonwalk to pursue enemies and fight above the sea. 149 522
Investigation and Command
Kyros grew into a capable Marine investigator and local commander.
- Investigated the Emerald Peak Duchy case and uncovered Viscount Wenbulai's crimes, helping clear Issho's name. 152
- Led port patrols in Dressrosa, reviewed incoming-ship records, and prioritized anti-smuggling and maritime security. 522
- Recognized the danger of corruption among low-ranking Marines because he had risen through the ranks himself. 522
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twin-bladed Greatsword — His primary weapon during his Colosseum career. 32
- Marine greatsword/longsword — His standard weapon as a Marine officer. 159 331
- Marine Cloak of Justice — Worn during his service; Kyros once used it to cover Fisher Tiger's Fish-Man features after rescuing him. 228
Relationships
- Tsugikuni Yoriichi — Recruiter, commander, and mentor. Yoriichi admired Kyros's swordsmanship, brought him into the Marines, and consistently supported his decisions made in the name of justice. 33 34 200 204
- Kuzan — Fellow Marine who persuaded Kyros to accept the Marines' invitation and helped him adjust after leaving the Colosseum. 34 35
- King Riku — Former judge and later father-in-law. Riku spared Kyros's life, gave him the Colosseum's 100-victory condition, and eventually accepted him as Scarlet's husband. 32 273
- Scarlet — Wife. Their wedding was intentionally modest, with Kyros prioritizing the development of the Dawn Sword branch over extravagance. 274
- Rebecca — Daughter. Kyros remained in Dressrosa rather than travel to Thunder God Island because she was too young for such an environment. 328
- Issho — Fellow Marine and respected comrade. Kyros initially attempted to arrest Issho, later investigated the case surrounding him, and came to admire his strength. 149 152
- Fisher Tiger — Fish-Man Kyros rescued from pirates. Kyros treated him with compassion despite Tiger's distrust of humans and personally covered him with his cloak. 228
- Shimotsuki Koushirou — Sparring opponent and fellow Marine associate. Their match exposed Kyros's practical battlefield style and Koushirou's superior Haki-based technique. 159 160
