Background

Zou Wen is the eldest of the Small Knife Society’s six leaders. He is an experienced underworld figure whose position is built on wealth, connections, and a careful understanding of how to manage both allies and threats. He had previously spent heavily to purchase two Martial Patrol Office recommendation quotas: one went to his foster son Lai Jin, while the other remained vacant after Dazhuang’s body was damaged. 78

When Lu Chen joins the society, Zou recognizes his value quickly. Although the other leaders consider exploiting Lu Chen’s conflict with the Green River Sect or claiming his lottery business if he dies, Zou rejects attempts to hold leverage over him. Instead, he argues that Lu Chen should be brought sincerely into the society’s fold and cultivated as a useful talent. 60

After Lu Chen rescues Magistrate Chen’s son, Zou offers him the vacant Martial Patrol Office quota. He is also pragmatic about danger. Faced with the Knocking Ghost, he does not pretend to be heroic or attempt an impossible fight; he prepares an escape route and relocates the society to safer territory. 100
