Background / History
Conrad appears on Minion Island after being transported into the era, initially suffering memory loss and an intense fever-like reaction while trying to recall critical events. Marine records later list him only as an orphan rescued from Minion Island in the North Blue. 1 2 19
During the conflict over the Op-Op Fruit, he saves Rosinante and helps protect Trafalgar Law. Although physically immature and unable to speak at first, he rapidly regains his speech and fights the Barrels Pirates with Haki and a harpoon. 1 2
His confrontation with Vergo becomes a turning point. Unable to overcome Vergo's Armament Haki, Conrad recognizes the gap in his strength and ambition; his resolve to surpass it drives the early growth of his Conqueror's Haki. 4 6
After Zephyr rescues him, Conrad enters Marine training to secure Baby-5's freedom. He begins as a Third-Class Private, but his aptitude, battlefield record, and unconventional conduct quickly make him a prominent Marine recruit. 8 9 18
Appearance
Conrad's appearance changes markedly as his cultivation, Life Return, and inner-demon power develop.
- Initially stands at 1.67 meters, with youthful, rounded features that make him conspicuous among adult Marine recruits. 19
- Following the awakening of the Heavenly Martial Killing Path, grows from a boy into a young man; his blood-red hair reaches his waist, and his right arm bears charred, bloody marks. 39
- Develops heterochromia during his transformed state: one black eye and one crimson eye. 39
- Reaches 2.28 meters after releasing a compressed Life Return state. 199
- Later has mottled blood-red and black hair, which he can individually control after mastering Life Return. 244
Personality
Conrad possesses overwhelming self-confidence and regularly presents himself as an inevitable, world-shaping hero. He believes strength, intellect, courage, and will are the foundations of his destiny, and he reacts fiercely when others attempt to restrict, belittle, or manipulate him. 1 9 277
He is guided by an intense, personal idea of justice. Conrad repeatedly intervenes to save people he considers good—including Rosinante, Cindry, Ginny, Bonney, captives aboard Vander Decken's ship, and the Tontatta Tribe—but his methods are often ruthless, violent, and uncompromising. 1 32 98 149 166
Conrad's greatest psychological danger is his appetite for violence. The reversed Heart-Freezing Art amplifies his bloodlust, and his inner demon repeatedly threatens to overwhelm his judgment. He eventually gains control over that power, though using it still exposes him to its corrosive influence. 34 36 181
Despite his arrogance, he is an attentive teacher and planner. He trains recruits, recognizes exceptional talent in Kuina and Zoro, builds operational alliances, and adapts techniques from enemies during battle. 26 66 110 149
Abilities & Skills
Haki
Conrad is an advanced user of all three forms of Haki, which he cultivates as an internal martial force and measures in “horsepower.”
- Uses Conqueror's Haki from early in his career and regards it as a manifestation of his own strength rather than an external gift. 21
- Coats his body, fists, and weapons in Armament Haki; his hardened defense withstands explosions and Daz Bonez's chainsaw attack. 36
- Uses Observation Haki to detect threats and monitor a fifty-meter radius, with greater range when concentrating. 118
- Can rotate Haki through his limbs and weapons to dramatically increase the force of his strikes. 65 66
- His Haki growth can exceed what his physical body can safely contain, requiring extreme body-tempering and healing support. 166 208
Martial Arts and Cultivation
Conrad practices both internal and external cultivation, combining Haki circulation with relentless physical conditioning.
- Heart-Freezing Art — Anchors Haki in his brain and restrains emotional instability; later becomes the seal through which he accesses his inner demon's power. 16 181
- Imperial Classic of World Governance — Routes Haki through his heart and supports his celestial observation and strategic intuition. 16 30
- Heavenly Martial Killing Path — A reversed form of the Heart-Freezing Art that awakens the Ten Thousand Mile Slaughter life star and intensifies Conrad's strength, transformation, and bloodlust. 34
- Sea Haki Infinite Art — Draws Seastone particles from seawater into his body to strengthen it at increasingly fine levels of precision. 185
- Ten Dragon Dismemberment Body Tempering Art — Endures being stretched by ten Sea Kings for hours to forge greater endurance and physical resilience. 239
Navy Six Powers
Conrad learns all six Six Powers within a week under Aokiji's instruction.
- Soru — Uses high-speed movement to incapacitate Royal Guards. 29
- Geppo — Traverses the air and uses it to reach Cindry during the Opera House rescue. 26 32
- Shigan — Develops variants such as Shark Tooth Shigan, which can pierce opponents and absorb vitality. 26 36
- Also masters Tekkai, Kami-e, and Rankyaku. 26
Swordsmanship
Conrad is an elite swordsman and instructor who emphasizes precision, timing, hardness, softness, speed, and sight over brute strength alone. 111
- Defeats Koushirou in their first exchange by redirecting his force and exploiting his opening. 108
- Offers Kuina systematic training in numerous sword styles and encourages her ambition to become the world's greatest female swordsman. 111
- Defeats Zombie Ryuma, who acknowledges him as a swordmaster and offers him Shusui. 114
- Defeats Dracule Mihawk using the Taia Sword and earns recognition as the world's greatest swordsman. 238
Celestial Observation and Strategic Perception
Using the Imperial Classic of World Governance, Conrad studies celestial phenomena to identify danger and perceive possible outcomes.
- Foresees extreme danger around the Opera House through hostile stars. 30
- Receives a vision of Cindry falling to her death and acts in time to prevent it. 32
- Combines Observation Haki, battlefield experience, and deduction to identify hidden enemies and false intelligence. 31 118
Age-Age Fruit
Conrad can activate the Age-Age Fruit to transform into a future version of himself.
- Temporarily triples 250,000 horsepower into 750,000 horsepower during his clash with Imu. 206 208
- The transformation rapidly drains his stamina and risks destroying his body if pushed too far. 208 275
- Later believes the fruit cannot access his true strongest future state. 277
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Bawang Spear / Whale-Slaying Tyrant Spear — Conrad's principal weapon; frequently wielded with rotating Haki and used alongside Baby-5's transformations. 32 65 266
- Baby-5 — His spouse and primary weapon partner; she can transform into spears, shields, arm armor, and other weapons suited to his body and combat style. 5 32 90 251
