Background

Baby-5 was abandoned as a child because she was poor, then taken in by the Donquixote Family and raised as an assassin. Of one hundred orphans subjected to the Family's training, she was one of only two survivors; her exceptional endurance and ability to remember a weapon's structure made her suitable to receive the Weapon-Weapon Fruit. 50 109

While serving the Donquixote Family, she meets Conrad during the conflict on Minion Island. Conrad publicly declares that he needs her, and she immediately answers his request to become a spear against Vergo. Their combined assault defeats Vergo, establishing the bond that defines her later choices. 4 5 6

After escaping the Donquixote Family with Conrad, she is rescued by the Marines but treated as a criminal because of her past killings.
