Background

Zoro trained at Isshin Dojo in Shimotsuki Village alongside Kuina. Even as a child, he was impatient to prove himself, identified himself as the future greatest swordsman, and relied on a Three-Sword Style stance. Conrad recognized his potential and offered to teach him superior swordsmanship. 107 110

After Conrad's conflict with Zombie Ryuma, Zoro left Shimotsuki Village with Conrad and Kuina aboard a Marine ship. He stated that he had already intended to go to sea and become the strongest swordsman. 115

Conrad's training pushed Zoro toward Haki awakening through repeated physical ordeals and the Sandai Kitetsu test in Loguetown. Zoro initially struggled to control Haki around the cursed sword and injured his hand, but he refused to abandon the blade or rest despite exhaustion. 126 127

Personality
