Background / History

Zhou Taoyao, then known as Er Ya, found the yellow-skinned gourd near Peach Blossom Village and gave it to Li Qingshan. Li later states that the treasure changed him from a mortal without a spirit root and set him on the path of cultivation. Its origin at that time remained completely unknown. 438

Li first discovers its power after filling it with discarded pills from the Hall of Discarded Treasures. By the following morning, pills that still retained medicinal energy have become top-grade pills. After confirming that it cannot affect completely depleted residue or mundane items, he begins treating the gourd as his greatest secret. 5

Further experiments reveal that it can revive withered spiritual herbs, repair damaged artifacts, raise their grades, and alter its own size. Li names it the Wish-Fulfilling Gourd after watching it expand and shrink at his command. 6

For much of Li’s early cultivation, the gourd functions as an incomparably effective but silent treasure. Its consciousness only becomes perceptible after Li enters its chaotic space and leaves a primordial-spirit imprint within it. It then communicates its need for treasures carrying heaven-and-earth laws to restore the origin consumed by its transformations. 308

The gourd’s later reactions to the mysterious seed reveal its deeper nature. The seed’s vision connects it to the birth of a Chaos Gourd, while the seed itself develops into a Chaos Ancient Vine inside its internal world.
