Background

Tsunade founded Konoha Hospital and pioneered Konoha’s medical-ninjutsu system. She is recognized as the village’s foremost medical ninja and one of the Legendary Sannin. Her medical reforms elevated the place of medical shinobi within Konoha’s teams. 7 173

For more than twenty years, Tsunade stayed away from Konoha, wandering while avoiding debts and refusing recalls from the Third Hokage. The deaths of the Fourth Hokage and Kushina, along with the wider cruelty of the shinobi world, deepened her reluctance to return. She had not worn her Konoha forehead protector for years. 7 16 18

She returned to the area around Konoha after Tonton went missing and encountered Kimura Takuya while he was acquiring animal organs for experiments. After Takuya successfully attached a leopard leg to Oda Lang’s arm with the Flesh Substitution Technique, Tsunade used a loophole in their wager to force him into becoming her disciple.
