As a student of Shrek Academy alongside teammates like Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Xiao Wu, he initially navigates the spirit master world with great ambition and strong backing from his father, Tang Hao 15 21.

However, his path crosses with Huang Yan, a vastly superior and ruthless opponent. Throughout their encounters, Tang San is repeatedly humiliated, outmatched, and physically broken 18 92. Driven by desperation to save Xiao Wu and avenge his losses, Tang San's reckless decisions—such as attempting to absorb a 3,000-year soul ring far beyond his limit—only lead to further self-inflicted damage 30 31.

Under Huang Yan's systematic orchestration of the "Nine Trials of Evil," Tang San's life is progressively dismantled 81 95. He is abandoned by the Clear Sky Sect, betrayed or left behind by allies, forced apart from Xiao Wu, stripped of his hidden weapon efficacy by having his left hand burned and crippled, coerced into forfeiting his second martial soul (the Clear Sky Hammer), and finally compelled to publicly submit and admit his inferiority to Huang Yan to save his dying father 83 86 89 93 94 95.
