Background / History
Tang Hao belongs to the Clear Sky Sect’s family line. His eldest brother, Tang Xiao, is its sect master; Tang Yuehua is his younger sister, and Tang Chen is their grandfather. Although expelled from the sect, he continues to seek a way for Tang San to gain its recognition and support 45 47 52.
His partner, Ah Yin, was a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor who transformed into a human. After her sacrifice, he kept her surviving golden-veined Blue Silver Grass form and hid her hundred-thousand-year leg soul bone in the waterfall cavern behind Holy Soul Village. When explaining their family history to Tang San, he blames Qian Xunji and Martial Soul Hall; the narration criticizes him for omitting his own role in exposing Ah Yin’s identity while traveling with her 45 46.
Tang Hao places his hopes for revenge on Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls. He believes their potential could allow his son to reach—or surpass—Tang Chen’s Level 99 Peerless Douluo strength and destroy Martial Soul Hall, a goal he considers beyond his own remaining prospects 14.
Appearance
- Clothing: Wears a tattered gray robe 45.
- Presentation: Appears slovenly and disheveled; Tang San initially knows him as a down-and-out drunkard rather than a powerful Soul Master 17 45.
- Eyes and voice: Has murky eyes and a low, hoarse voice 14 45.
- Habitual accessory: Carries a jug of strong liquor in the waterfall cavern 45.
- Battlefield presence: His revealed strength gives him an imposing, mountain-like bearing 17.
Personality
Tang Hao is fiercely protective of Tang San. He breaks concealment when his son is threatened, shields him while fighting, and retreats when continued combat would endanger them both. Away from battle, he obtains cultivation resources, teaches the Clear Sky Sect’s techniques, and plans training intended to secure Tang San’s future 16 22 47 61 62.
His paternal care coexists with ruthlessness and vindictiveness. After losing Xiao Wu’s soul ring and soul bone to Qian Wulu, he broadcasts her possession of them throughout Heaven Dou City specifically to make her a target of others’ greed. Later, he orders Tang San to kill the hostile tavern occupants outside the Capital of Slaughter 24 70.
He treats violent methods pragmatically rather than condemning them outright. He approves of Tang San’s slaughter and does not object to the Eight Spider Lances devouring blood and soul power, but warns that easy gains can lead to addiction and loss of self-control 71.
