Background / History

Linley was born into the declining Baruch Clan of Wushan Town as Hogg's son and Moke's younger brother. At six and a half, he failed the Dragonblood Warrior bloodline test; distressed by Hogg's disappointment, he nevertheless vowed to work toward restoring the clan's former glory. 1

He trained alongside older children despite his age and strongly admired Moke, who routinely encouraged him in return. By age eight, Linley had begun secluded training on Wu Mountain and entered the First-Level Warrior realm. 3 8

Linley discovered and named the Coiling Dragon Ring in the Baruch ancestral house. During a meteor shower caused by two Saint Realm experts, blood from a head wound was absorbed by the ring, making him its master. The soul of the ancient Saint Realm magus Doering Cowart subsequently appeared before him and began teaching him magic. 5 7 8

After encountering Bebe near the ancestral manor, Linley persistently tried to tame the small magical beast. Bebe ultimately formed an equal contract with him as Linley, Moke, and Hillman departed for Fenlai City. 8 9

At the Fenlai City aptitude test, Linley demonstrated super-grade affinity for earth and wind magic, medium-grade affinity for fire, and spiritual energy eighteen times greater than that of his peers. He was accepted into the Ernst Institute alongside Moke. 11

Appearance

At eight, Linley was about half a head shorter than Moke, whose Holy Dragon cultivation had accelerated his physical development. Continued training later caused him to lose his childhood baby fat. 8 12

Personality

Linley is sensitive and emotionally open as a child, crying after his failed bloodline test but insisting that he is “a man.” He is deeply motivated by the Baruch Clan's lost glory and hopes that becoming a mage will allow him to reclaim the Warblade Slaughter. 1 6

He is devoted to his family, especially Moke and Wharton. Linley admires Moke's strength, eagerly cheers for him during training, and feels both happiness and concern when he learns of Wharton's awakened Dragonblood Warrior bloodline. 3 17

Though he depends on Moke's support, Linley also values independence; after entering Ernst Institute, he declines Moke's offer to share a manor and resolves to earn such accommodation through his own efforts. 14
