Geography & Layout

Kirigakure is built deep in the mountains of Morning Mist Island, amid constant white mist, steep terrain, mountain lakes, and a dense network of stone bridges. Its central settlement is connected by elevated roads and stairways, with the Mizukage Building serving as the village's convergence point. 65 133

History

Founding and Early Civil War

First Mizukage Byakuren founded Kirigakure during the transition from the Warring States period to the hidden-village era. The Hōzuki Clan was the first major clan to support him, while pressure from Senju Hashirama pushed additional Land of Water clans to join before resistance could become a prolonged war. 65

The village did not unite the Land of Water peacefully. Many clans rejected Byakuren's authority, including the Yuki Clan on Snow Wind Island and the Kaguya Clan, which had migrated from the Shinobi World's mainland. Kirigakure initially controlled most of Morning Mist Island but remained short on manpower and faced continued resistance across the surrounding islands. 65

Yura's Arrival and Military Expansion

Yura entered Kirigakure with Lucy and was accepted by Byakuren despite concerns from Hōzuki Gengetsu and other senior shinobi. She registered as a jōnin while her identity as a Seven-Tails Jinchūriki remained confidential. 66 67

Yura quickly established herself through repeated single-strike victories over challenging jōnin, then led Kirigakure's campaign against the Kaguya Clan. After killing clan chief Kimimaro and devastating the clan's settlement, she brought the survivors into Kirigakure's ranks. 68 78 82 83

Her subsequent conquest of the Yuki Clan caused widespread panic among the remaining island clans. Smaller clans on Young Leaf Island chose surrender rather than face Kirigakure's advancing forces. 93 107

Consolidation and War Preparations

Byakuren approved Yura's proposal to organize the village's elite into the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, with each swordsman commanding a specialized division.
