Sasuke is raised in the Uchiha Clan and receives clan instruction before entering the Ninja Academy. His ninja-tool throwing is already considered graduation level, while his status as an Uchiha makes him deeply conscious of clan pride and reputation. 15

He greatly admires his older brother, Uchiha Itachi. After Sasuke repeats Denji's thoughts on the Will of Fire, Itachi encourages him to use Denji as a role model; Sasuke reluctantly follows the advice, despite feeling that initiating a friendship would harm the Uchiha's dignity. 11 14

Sasuke eventually approaches Denji by helping retrieve his shuriken and offering him a spare ninja-tool pouch in exchange for friendship. Though awkward and initially unwilling to acknowledge the relationship, he begins training with and repeatedly challenging Denji. 15 18 42

After the failed Uchiha coup, Itachi kills their father, Fugaku. Sasuke becomes increasingly consumed by the need to avenge him and escape the identity of merely being “Itachi's younger brother.” 110 123
