Background / History

The Uchiha are one of Konoha’s foremost shinobi clans, recognized alongside the Hyuga as a great clan possessing a top-tier kekkei genkai. Their status and distinctive bloodline make them politically prominent, but also a source of fear and distance from the wider village. 2 42

Following the Nine-Tails Incident, suspicion that a Mangekyō Sharingan user had controlled the beast severely damaged relations between the clan and Konoha. The clan was relocated from the village center to the banks of the Naka River, where resentment toward the leadership intensified. 100

A radical faction eventually prepared an armed coup against the Hokage. Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha Itachi, and Uchiha Fugaku—after Fugaku was affected by Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami—used a staged uprising to identify and eliminate the hardliners before they could seize power. 107 108
