Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cultivation relationship — Level 1 | 67 | Qiushui binds Lee as an SS-grade high-quality talent after Lee recognizes him; the binding grants Qiushui the Advanced Water Style: Great Waterfall Technique. 67 |
| Cultivation relationship — Level 2 | 120 | Lee's favorability rises after Qiushui heals and counsels him following his defeat by Neji; Qiushui receives Intermediate Rock Breathing. 120 |
Background
Lee has extremely low chakra and no aptitude for ninjutsu, but the system judges his taijutsu as superior to that of ordinary people and rates his potential at SS−. During a classroom evaluation, he cannot produce even a partial clone or transformation despite repeatedly attempting the techniques. 66
Mocked by classmates for his failures in ninjutsu, Lee receives a decisive affirmation from Qiushui: persistence can still make him an excellent ninja. The encouragement moves Lee to tears, as it is the first time someone has recognized him so completely. Qiushui subsequently binds him to a key training program. 66 67
Qiushui brings Lee to meet Might Guy, whose life story inspired Lee to pursue the ninja path. Recognizing Lee's dedication and taijutsu potential, Guy agrees to train him. 69
While Guy is away on a mission, Qiushui incorporates Lee into his training group alongside Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata. Lee's initial written-test score is only 6 out of 50, prompting Qiushui to build a study-and-exercise training model around missed questions. 93 94
Appearance
Lee resembles Might Guy closely enough for Kakashi to briefly suspect that he is Guy's secret child. 69
- Thick eyebrows. 94
- Bowl-cut hairstyle. 69
- Green spandex bodysuit, given to him by Might Guy. 69 94
- Wears the bodysuit at all times except while eating or sleeping, following Guy's instruction. 94
Personality
Lee is earnest, intensely optimistic, and defines hardship as part of “youth.” He treats ridicule and obstacles as things to accept calmly rather than reasons to stop training. 115
His resolve can become self-destructive. During his match with Neji, Lee repeatedly rises after being knocked down and refuses to surrender until he is rendered unconscious. Afterward, he accepts Qiushui's warning that courage without judgment can permanently destroy his dream of becoming a ninja. 119 120
Lee is also compassionate toward his peers. When Naruto is forbidden from eating, Lee shares his food and offers to accept punishment alongside him. 107
Abilities & Skills
Taijutsu
Lee's principal strength is hand-to-hand combat. Although he lacks ninjutsu talent, his taijutsu aptitude and physical foundation are exceptional. 66
- Uses close-quarters combat to compensate for weaker ninjutsu and throwing skills. 117
- Defeats Yano Ji with a single Leaf Whirlwind kick in the final practical exam. 118
- His sparring against Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata develops his combat experience; despite regularly losing, his counterattacks become heavier and more decisive. 102 108 118
- Has not yet learned to open the Eight Inner Gates as of his sparring match with Sasuke. 102
Leaf Whirlwind
A spinning kick taught by Might Guy. Lee leaps during a high-speed approach, rapidly tenses his leg muscles, and transfers force from his ankle through the top of his foot. 118
- Knocked Yano Ji unconscious with one strike. 118
- Relies on speed and close-range timing rather than complicated ninjutsu. 118
Physical Conditioning
Lee has trained before dawn every day since he was eight years old. His routine includes studying, running, strength exercises, and additional push-ups before class. 107 114
- Arrives at the training ground at 4:00 a.m. on weekends. 107
- Keeps pace with Hyuga Neji in the physical-fitness examination and places second. 117
- Possesses resilience that lets him continue fighting after sustained punishment, though this trait also contributes to his recklessness. 108 119
Ninjutsu Limitations
Lee's low chakra and lack of ninjutsu talent severely restrict his use of standard Academy techniques. 66 94
- Cannot perform the Clone Technique, Transformation Technique, or other Three Basic Techniques. 66 94
- Initially struggles badly with ninja-tool throwing, though Qiushui's training raises his score to 70. 116
- Must rely primarily on theory, physical fitness, taijutsu, and improved tool use to raise his overall academic standing. 94
Equipment / Items
- Green spandex bodysuit — A gift from Might Guy, intended to let Lee “feel the heat of youth” constantly. 94
- Kunai — Used in Academy throwing tests and practical combat. 116 117
Training & Exam Results

| Ninja-tool throwing final | 70 | His best recorded score, earned through steadier form and Qiushui's instruction. 116 |
| Physical-fitness examination | 2nd place | Keeps pace with Neji and finishes second. 117 |
