Background / History
Madara led the Uchiha Clan during the Warring States period. After the death of his brother Izuna, his grief hardened into hostility toward the Senju and undermined his former desire for peace. Though fiercely protective of Uchiha dignity and unwilling to exploit his own clansmen as the prior elders had, his continued war against the Senju left many civilians, disabled shinobi, and bereaved families in hardship. 46 64
He attempted to capture the Nine-Tails with Sharingan genjutsu and turn it into a weapon against the Senju. Hashirama, Yue, Hikari, Minato, and Kushina intervened; Madara fought Hashirama while the others contained the tailed beast. Madara ultimately withdrew with the Nine-Tails after the Uchiha used a Reverse Summoning Jutsu. 53 54 57
Yue and Hikari later secretly built a network of Uchiha civilians who had been shown visions of peaceful lives. Madara detected the widespread emotional changes among his clansmen and confronted the pair personally. Yue challenged him to gain recognition and learn more about ocular techniques, leading to a battle against Madara’s Susanoo. 67 68 69
When Uchiha civilians stood between Madara and Yue’s group, he hesitated rather than strike his disabled clansmen. Yue and Hikari then used Yachihoko, amplified by Yue’s sacrificed ocular power, to force Madara to experience the civilians’ hopes and memories alongside visions of Izuna. Hashirama’s arrival prompted Madara to demand a final battle at the Valley of the End. 70 71 72
The duel ended in a draw, after which Madara agreed to negotiations with Hashirama. Their formal Senju–Uchiha alliance ended the Warring States period and established the village later named Konoha. 73 74
In his old age, Madara survived in a cavern through tubes linking him to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. He pursued the Eye of the Moon Plan and relied on Hashirama Cells, but Yue exposed his knowledge of the plan and challenged him. Madara was defeated by Yue’s Top Transformed Buddha: Majestic Attire Susanoo, then shown the truth of Black Zetsu’s manipulation and the eventual realization of Hashirama’s dream. He accepted his defeat and died. 121 122 123
Appearance
Madara’s appearance changed drastically between the Warring States period and his final years, but he retained an imposing presence even when his body had become frail. 68 121
- Long black hair and dark red battle armor during his prime. 68
- Carries an Uchiha Gunbai in battle. 55 68
- Possesses Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan during the Warring States period. 68
- In old age, he is emaciated and white-haired, with life-support tubes embedded in his back and a cloudy Three-Tomoe Sharingan. 121
Personality
Madara is proud, domineering, and convinced that strength is the only basis for meaningful dialogue. He dismisses elaborate ocular techniques and deception as tools for the weak, preferring overwhelming force and Susanoo as his answer to opposition. 68 74
He is intensely battle-driven. Yue and Hikari’s coordinated attacks excite rather than intimidate him, and even in old age he relishes being pushed into a life-or-death struggle. 68 122
Despite his hatred and arrogance, Madara carries genuine responsibility for the Uchiha Clan. He protects its dignity, recognizes individual wounded clansmen, and refuses to casually kill a disabled Uchiha civilian. His lingering longing for peace and family—especially Izuna—makes him vulnerable to Yue’s emotional appeal. 64 70 71
Abilities & Skills
Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan
Madara possesses Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, granting ocular power far beyond ordinary Mangekyō users. Yue considers his Complete Body Susanoo the pinnacle of Yin Release and ocular-power application. 56 68
- Controlled the Nine-Tails through Sharingan genjutsu. 53 54
- Saw through or resisted most of Yue’s Yin Release deception, though Yue could briefly disrupt his perception. 55 68
- Used ocular power to manifest and sustain advanced Susanoo forms. 56 69
Susanoo
Madara’s primary combat method is a deep-blue Susanoo, which he regards as more reliable than specialized ocular techniques. 56 74
- Manifested a semi-body Susanoo that blocked explosive tags, Yang Release water attacks, and Lightning Release strikes. 69
- Created a winged Complete Body Susanoo whose chakra blade could level mountains. 55 56 121
- In old age, formed a Complete Body Susanoo reinforced by a Wood Dragon around its sword. 122
- His Susanoo was damaged by Yue and Hikari’s combined spatial displacement, Amaterasu, and synchronized assaults. 69
Wood Release and Hashirama Cells
In old age, Madara drew on Hashirama Cells for vitality and access to Wood Release. Removing the Demonic Statue’s life-support tubes caused his remaining life force to drain rapidly. 121 122
- Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence — floods the battlefield with enormous vines and flowers that release paralyzing pollen. 122
- Wood Dragon — wrapped a Wood Dragon around his Susanoo’s sword for a decisive attack. 122
- The Hashirama Cells prolonged his life and supported his final burst of power, but could not overcome his aged body’s limits. 122
Fire Release
Madara can launch high-output Fire Release without relying solely on his dōjutsu.
- Fire Release: Majestic Destroyer Flame — combined with Deep Forest Emergence’s pollen to create widespread explosions. 122
- Fire Release: Dragon Flame Song — used during his initial battle against Yue and Hikari. 121
Rinnegan and the Eye of the Moon Plan
Madara’s Rinnegan were implanted in Nagato before Yue encountered the child. Madara believed the Rinnegan would have allowed him to enjoy his final battle more fully. 111 122
- Pursued the Eye of the Moon Plan while hidden beside the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. 121
- Believed Black Zetsu to be his own manifested will and kept it as a hidden final safeguard. 123
- Learned from Yue that the Infinite Tsukuyomi would turn humanity into chakra-drained White Zetsu rather than save the world. 123
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Uchiha Gunbai — a war fan used for direct attacks and defensive redirection; it was briefly thrown off-angle by Yue’s perceptual interference. 55 68
- Demonic Statue of the Outer Path life-support tubes — sustained Madara’s aged body until he tore them out to fight Yue. 121
- Hashirama Cells — supplied remaining vitality and enabled Wood Release during his final battle. 122
Relationships
- Hashirama Senju — lifelong rival and former friend; their conflict culminates in the Valley of the End, after which they form the Senju–Uchiha alliance and found Konoha. 54 72 74
- Izuna Uchiha — deceased younger brother whose loss deepened Madara’s hatred; Yue’s mental assault evokes Madara’s memories of Izuna and his lost desire for peace. 46 71
- Yue Uchiha — adversary and later negotiating counterpart; Yue challenges Madara for recognition and ocular knowledge, defeats him in old age, and reveals the truth behind his plan. 68 73 121 123
- Uchiha Hikari — Yue’s partner in the fight against Madara; her Yachihoko connects Madara to the hopes and memories of Uchiha civilians. 68 71
- Black Zetsu — regarded by Madara as his own will until Yue reveals that it manipulated the Uchiha Stone Tablet and the Eye of the Moon Plan. 123
- Nagato — carries Madara’s Rinnegan during childhood. 111
- Uchiha civilians — Madara sees himself as responsible for them and refuses to cut down a disabled clansman, but their plea for peace forces him to confront the cost of his path. 64 70 72
