Background / History

Rōran and the Dragon Vein

Yue arrives in Rōran seeking control of the Dragon Vein, an immense underground senjutsu-chakra source capable of space-time distortions. He determines that Queen Sara's bloodline is required to fully unseal and command it. 4 11

He saves Sara from Anrokuzan's puppet assassination attempt, uses the Sharingan to force her to confront the truth behind Rōran's apparent prosperity, and later maneuvers her into granting him control of the Dragon Vein. During Mukade's attack, he coordinates with Minato Namikaze and Naruto Uzumaki while personally confronting Mukade with his Mangekyō. 4 7 8 11

After Rōran is saved, Yue forbids further use of the Dragon Vein while honoring his agreement with Sara by supplying designs for wind-powered pumps, solar power, drip irrigation, greenhouse agriculture, and other infrastructure. He conducts secret experiments beneath the city and identifies the Dragon Vein's critical frequency for opening a space-time rift. 12

Yue forces open a rift with Amenominakanushi and spends the last usable power of his left eye to make his survival certain through Yagokoro Omoikane. The jump sends him into the Warring States period, but leaves his left eye completely blind. 13

Warring States Period

To find a cure for his Mangekyō's degeneration, Yue infiltrates the Uchiha Clan by posing as a revenge-driven clansman. The elders pair him with Uchiha Hikari as the “Twin Demons,” intending to use both children as weapons against the Senju. 15

Yue and Hikari are subjected to the Spring of Returning Light, a ritual that forcibly transfers ocular power from expendable Uchiha into their eyes. Though disgusted by the ritual, Yue maintains his façade while beginning to treat Hikari as a person rather than a tool. 17 22

After escaping pursuit by the Senju and Sarutobi clans, Yue studies under Izumi Uchiha, whom he calls “Grandma Chiri.” She teaches him profound Yin Release techniques and eventually entrusts him with the construction principles of the Spring of Returning Light. 22 25 28
