Background

Tang San was born with the Blue Silver Grass martial soul, which he initially regarded as worthless. Despite his humble background and the contempt he faced in both lives, he resolved to cultivate until he could become a powerful noble capable of deciding others' lives and deaths. He relied on his teacher's guidance and his own determination to pursue that goal 26 61.

His father, Tang Hao, was ambushed by Thousand Jun Douluo and Falling Devil Douluo while Ye Xuan moved separately to seize Ah Yin, the Blue Silver Empress. Tang San did not intervene in the attack, and Tang Hao was later captured by Spirit Hall 26 134.

Tang San later gained a Bloodthirsty Demon Spider soul ring and the External Soul Bone Eight Spider Lances, although this set was inferior to the one he would have obtained under his original fate 53. He also exposed his second martial soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, during the Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament, drawing the attention of major factions 122.

Shi Nian trapped Tang San in an illusion intended to kill him. The Asura God intervened, killed Shi Nian, and guided the ten-thousand-year Illusion Wisdom Skull into Tang San's body 110. Within the skull's spiritual-memory experience, Tang San lived an alternate life in which he was surrounded by the Shrek Seven Devils, married Xiao Wu, founded the Tang Sect, and ascended as the Asura God's successor. Awakening with those memories convinced him that Ye Xuan had altered his intended fate and taken away his companions 110 111.

Appearance

At Blue Tyrant Academy, Tang San wore a black tunic and was described as having an ordinary face, though his eyes carried an unusual composure for his age 102. Years later, as Star Luo's Imperial Preceptor, he wore purple brocade robes and carried the Asura Token at his waist 252.

  • Initially has a restrained, composed bearing despite his ordinary appearance 102.
  • His eyes become bloodshot, cold, or scarlet during periods of hatred, desperation, and battle 61 111 157.
  • Wields the black, dragon-patterned Clear Sky Hammer in his later career 252.
  • Bears the ten-thousand-year Illusion Wisdom Skull at the center of his brow 110 111.

Personality

Tang San begins as fiercely ambitious and self-reliant. His early goal is to overcome the perceived weakness of Blue Silver Grass and rise above the status he was born into 26. He is highly persistent under physical hardship, surviving repeated falls on Hell Road and carving out a ledge with the Mysterious Jade Hand while exposed to the Yellow Springs Dew 170 172.

His experience within the Illusion Wisdom Skull makes him calmer and more reserved, while also deepening his belief that he has been deprived of a destined life. From then on, his determination increasingly centers on reclaiming his companions, avenging Tang Hao, and defeating Ye Xuan 111 134 175.

Repeated humiliation, defeat, and loss gradually twist this resolve into resentment and possessiveness. By the time he serves as Star Luo's Imperial Preceptor, he is described as sinister, overbearing, greedy, and consumed by revenge; his rushed advancement also leaves his Soul Power unstable and chaotic 252 253.

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses two martial souls: Blue Silver Grass—later identified as the Blue Silver Empress—and the Clear Sky Hammer.

  • Blue Silver Grass / Blue Silver Empress — Used for restraint, perception, and connecting allies' Soul Power. His bloodline is largely activated after consuming an immortal herb, though he cannot immediately fully awaken the Blue Silver Empress martial soul 100.
  • Clear Sky Hammer — His second martial soul, revealed during the tournament and later prioritized because it is better suited to Asura divine power 122 252.
  • His rushed focus on the Clear Sky Hammer disrupts the balance between his twin martial souls, contributing to an unstable foundation 252.

Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills

Tang San employs Blue Silver Grass as a control-oriented martial soul.

  • Entangle — Restrains targets with Blue Silver Grass 109.
  • Parasite — Used alongside Entangle to bind opponents 109.
  • Spider Web Restraint — Seals movement and escape routes 109.
  • Blue Silver Cage — Fourth soul skill acquired from a thousand-year soul ring; forms a stronger containment technique 100 109.
  • Plant-based perception — Can spread the Blue Silver Empress' aura into surrounding vegetation to search for abnormalities 278.

Clear Sky Hammer and Fusion Techniques

The Clear Sky Hammer serves as Tang San's principal offensive martial soul in later arcs.

  • Can receive Soul Power from allies through Blue Silver Grass connections and channel it into the hammer 132.
  • Seven-in-One Martial Soul Fusion Skill: Clear Sky Avatar — Combines the power of Tang San and six allies, briefly producing combat power comparable to a Soul Emperor 132 142.
  • The fusion technique becomes unstable when Tang San suffers emotional collapse, causing his Clear Sky Hammer to lose control 142.

Spiritual Power and Purple Demon Eye

The Illusion Wisdom Skull dramatically strengthens Tang San's spiritual power and battle perception.

  • The ten-thousand-year skull repairs his damaged spiritual world and raises his spiritual power beyond ordinary Soul Elders 110 111.
  • Purple Demon Eye combined with the Wisdom Skull breaks the Blue Sunshine Academy team's Asura Illusion 116 117.
  • Can perceive opponents' Soul Power flow and predict combat movements more effectively 112.
  • Uses the Purple Demon Eye to observe the movements of multiple Super Douluo during battle 293.

Hidden Weapons and Mysterious Heaven Skills

Tang San is exceptionally proficient with hidden weapons and techniques from the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record.

  • Godly Zhuge Crossbow — Used to rapidly kill Fallen Ones in the Hell Slaughter Arena 157.
  • Bone-Piercing Needles — Previously gave such needles to Meng Yiran 53.
  • Hundred Interpretations of Hidden Weapons — Used when trapped by Ah Yin's Blue Silver Life Vines 60.
  • Bat Wing Reincarnation — Fires poisoned silver needles in curved trajectories that bypass defenses 119.
  • Mysterious Jade Hand — Lets him claw into solid rock and create footholds on Hell Road 172.
  • Mysterious Heaven Skill — Drives his Soul Power to its limit and helps him survive a fall toward the Yellow Springs Dew 170.

Eight Spider Lances

Tang San possesses the Eight Spider Lances External Soul Bone.

  • Improves his speed and physical strength 60.
  • Can be embedded into a cliff face to slow his descent 170.
  • The set is explicitly inferior to the Eight Spider Lances he would have obtained in his original fate 53.
  • Was shattered during a tournament battle, though Tang San used its poisonous fragments as concealed weapons 119.

Asura God's Inheritance

Tang San is the Asura God's chosen successor and receives repeated divine intervention.

  • The Asura God saves him from Shi Nian and arranges his acquisition of the Illusion Wisdom Skull 110.
  • The god prevents Bibi Dong's Eternal Creation from killing Tang San and removes him from Spirit City after Tang Hao's execution 144.
  • Tang San invokes Asura power when overwhelmed by Ye Xuan 163.
  • Completion of the Seventh Trial grants him the Asura Divine Sword, three ranks of Soul Power, and increased affinity with Asura divine power 263.
  • He remains in the final stage of the inheritance, close to becoming the complete Asura God 312.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Clear Sky Hammer — Twin martial soul and primary weapon in his later career 122 252.
  • Asura Divine Sword — Inherited divine artifact recognized after completion of the Seventh Trial 263.

  • Ah Yin — Biological mother. She appears as Ye Xuan's soul ring, rejects Tang San's claim that she is his mother, and restrains him with Blue Silver Life Vines 142.
