Background

Diejian is Hashirama’s grandson and the heir of the Senju Clan. His early chakra affinities were Earth, Fire, and Water, while Hashirama’s legacy and ideals strongly shaped his ambition to become Hokage and protect Konoha 2 7.

After Kakuzu destroyed his heart and meridian system, Hashirama’s chakra enabled Diejian’s body to regenerate. The resulting mutation fused his Water and Earth natures into Wood Release, though his body initially struggled to withstand the transformation and he could not use ninjutsu reliably for over a year 5 14. A later explanation attributes his Wood Release to an Uchiha soul within his Senju body, his new heart formed from Hashirama’s chakra, and the fusion of Water, Earth, and Yang Chakra 131.

Hashirama’s death also allowed fragments of Diejian’s suppressed memories from a previous life to resurface. He resolved to preserve the name “Senju Diejian” by living as a Konoha shinobi and pursuing Hashirama’s unfinished dream of reconciliation with the Uchiha 9 10.

Diejian is a scarred, well-trained shinobi who commonly wears purple clothing and Senju insignia. He has also used the Transformation Technique to assume an adult appearance resembling a younger Hashirama, albeit with sharper features 14 43.

Personality

Diejian is compassionate, earnest, and unusually receptive to the struggles of others. Though recognized as a genius, he refuses to ridicule people who lack talent, encourages Might Duy’s persistence, and values comradeship over empty ideals 16. His concern for others also drives his attempts to bridge the Senju–Uchiha divide, even when Juri initially rejects him for his clan 10.

Ina recognizes that Diejian often hides himself behind a “mask,” while his occasional calmness reveals a more guarded nature beneath his outwardly innocent and scatterbrained behavior 7 35. He can be mischievous, stubborn, untidy, and prone to causing trouble, traits that earned him notoriety during childhood 14 18.

Loss and guilt expose his greatest weakness: Diejian can act impulsively when those close to him are harmed. Following Kagami’s death, Nawaki’s death, and his defeat at Uzushio, he becomes consumed by isolation, hatred, and a desire to become the strongest 46 65 67.
