Since when did I become a background character?
Watching his own daughter's eyes sparkle as she hovered around a certain redhead, Yuhi Shinku couldn't help but fall into deep contemplation.
Just as he was lost in thought, Yuki Yuichi and Yuhi Kurenai walked over.
Seeing him deep in thought, Yuki Yuichi gave a light cough.
"Ahem."
"Uncle Shinku, are you here to bring us lunch?"
Yuki Yuichi's words snapped Yuhi Shinku out of his reverie, and he glared at the boy fiercely.
Seeing this, before Yuki Yuichi could even react, Yuhi Kurenai shot a rather adorable glare right back at her father.
"Dad, don't be so mean to Yuichi!"
Hearing his daughter's words, Yuhi Shinku took a deep breath to calm his complicated emotions.
This little padded jacket of his was leaking cold air.
Though he lamented in his heart, Yuhi Shinku still pulled out two bento boxes and handed them to Yuki Yuichi, saying, "I forgot to prepare lunch for you two."
"I bought these outside."
Yuhi Shinku shoved both bento boxes into Yuki Yuichi's hands.
He couldn't glare at the boy with his daughter standing right there, but the two boxes had some weight to them; making the brat carry them both could be considered a small measure of revenge.
Yuhi Shinku thought silently, though he soon froze.
Since when did he start thinking like this?
That detestable brat, his whole family had fallen into the kid's hands!
Yuhi Shinku glanced at Yuki Yuichi again, then sighed.
The trouble he'd brought upon himself, he had to endure it himself.
Even if the kid was a bit flighty, he was still... uh... probably... mostly a good boy.
A thousand thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant, and after shoving the bento boxes at Yuki Yuichi, Yuhi Shinku bid them farewell.
As he was leaving, for some reason, he looked at Yuki Yuichi and asked casually, "You haven't caused any trouble, have you?"
"Hm?" Yuki Yuichi, who had just been about to pull Yuhi Kurenai away, was immediately displeased.
"What do you mean by 'I shouldn't have caused any trouble'?"
"I have never caused trouble!"
Yuki Yuichi retorted indignantly, "I didn't interrupt the teacher during class today, and I didn't skip class either."
"How could I possibly cause trouble?!"
Yuhi Shinku nodded upon hearing this, "That's true."
"What kind of trouble could you possibly cause at the Ninja Academy?"
Just then, Kakashi walked over toward them.
Seeing Yuki Yuichi, Might Guy immediately gave him a thumbs-up and grinned, "Yuichi, I saw everything just now!"
"You were so strong!"
"Truly worthy of being my eternal rival!"
"All the classmates are saying you really stole the show!"
The expression on Yuhi Shinku's face, which had just settled, instantly froze.
"Didn't you say you didn't cause any trouble?"
"That's right." Yuki Yuichi said righteously, "Right after class ended, Kakashi wanted to spar with me, and I agreed."
"Sparring during break time shouldn't count as causing trouble, right?"
Yuhi Shinku looked past him at Kakashi, who was standing next to the boy who had just spoken, Might Guy.
He saw that Kakashi was covered in dust he couldn't brush off, and there was a clear mark on his chin where his black mask sat.
Beyond that, his left arm hung at an unnatural angle; it seemed he was injured as well.
He looked utterly disheveled and pitiful.
Yuki Yuichi looked over too, but he paused when he saw the mark on Kakashi's mask.
It seemed he had forgotten to take off the mask to see what he looked like.
That detestable white-haired Kakashi must have used a genjutsu to make me forget!
Yuki Yuichi grumbled silently to himself.
Kakashi, having noticed Yuhi Shinku, walked up and explained, "Uncle Shinku, it was my idea to challenge him to a spar."
"Losing was entirely my own fault."
Yuhi Shinku looked at Kakashi, sighed, and pulled a jar of ointment from his pocket.
"This is a healing ointment, take it."
"Next time, make sure this brat ends up just like you are now."
Kakashi stared at the ointment in his hand, stunned for a moment, before silently taking it.
"I definitely will!"
Hearing his words, Yuhi Shinku laughed heartily and patted him on the right shoulder, "Then I shall wait for your good news!"
"Mm!"
Watching the two of them singing in harmony, Yuki Yuichi cast a suspicious glance at Yuhi Shinku.
He had a feeling this old guy was up to no good.
After chatting briefly with them, Yuhi Shinku took his leave.
The afternoon class was still being taught by Umino Ikkaku.
Just like in the morning, he was teaching Chakra Refinement, but in the afternoon, besides the refinement technique, he was also teaching the illiterate students how to read.
This left Yuki Yuichi bored for the entire afternoon.
When he finally managed to endure until dismissal time, the very second the bell rang, Yuki Yuichi moved with lightning speed, grabbed Yuhi Kurenai, and jumped straight out of the second-story window.
"Woohoo! School's out!"
Following Yuki Yuichi's actions, the entire classroom fell into dead silence.
Umino Ikkaku, who was in the middle of lecturing and planning to finish the current page of the textbook before dismissing the class, saw his face turn black.
The other students in the classroom were basically the same.
A few students sitting by the window leaned out to take a look, only to see Yuki Yuichi running straight toward the school gate like a wild horse that had broken its tether.
As for Yuhi Kurenai, who had been dragged along, she was currently blushing and pressed against his chest, being carried in a bridal style as he ran.
Umino Ikkaku took a deep breath and walked to the window, preparing to use his Lion's Roar to call Yuki Yuichi back.
Kakashi, who was sitting in the front row by the window, also saw Yuki Yuichi's behavior.
After a moment of thought, he silently slid open the closed window, then leaped out, darting away like a large black rat.
Yuki Yuichi felt miserable, and he felt just as miserable.
Everything Umino Ikkaku was teaching, he had already mastered long ago.
He could pretend to space out in the morning, but by the afternoon, he really couldn't take it anymore.
One couldn't just space out for the entire day!
Moreover, it seemed like Teacher Umino intended to keep lecturing, so he might as well pretend he didn't know and escape just like Yuki Yuichi.
Umino Ikkaku, standing to the side, naturally had no idea what Kakashi was thinking. Just as he was about to unleash the Lion's Roar he had been brewing, the corner of his eye caught a white-haired boy wearing a mask also darting out.
Kakashi's actions seemed to have lit a powder keg; every student in the classroom who had already learned chakra, with the exception of Uchiha Obito, all bolted out at once.
As for why Uchiha Obito didn't bolt, those who know, know; those who don't, wouldn't understand even if explained.
Just like Kakashi, every student who had learned the Chakra Refinement technique could no longer stand this kind of lecturing.
They weren't fools; if Kakashi could see that the teacher still wanted to lecture, they could naturally see it too.
Under Umino Ikkaku's stunned gaze, in just a few moments, only a third of the students remained in the classroom.
