Background

Katsuyu describes Kaguya as the strongest goddess of the Era of Gods and Monsters, credited with ending that era before being sealed by her own two sons, Hagoromo and Hamura. Katsuyu was young at the time and does not know the full circumstances of the sealing. 60

Kaguya descended on the Shinobi World alongside Ōtsutsuki Isshiki. She ambushed him, fed half of his body to the Ten-Tails, and consumed the Chakra Fruit herself. She later created Hagoromo and Hamura through Yin-Yang Release; their existence was intended both to continue life and to prepare for pursuing Ōtsutsuki. 222 233 241

After casting Infinite Tsukuyomi and subjugating the world, Kaguya released part of humanity and ruled the Shinobi World as her personal “nursery.” She also prepared White Zetsu as a force against future Ōtsutsuki pursuers. 116 227 241

Hagoromo and Hamura eventually turned against her and sealed her away. Black Zetsu, identified as Kaguya's will, continued working toward her return until Ensei sealed it. 60 87

Appearance

Kaguya is a blue-white-haired Ōtsutsuki woman whose overwhelming chakra pressure can immobilize other Ōtsutsuki nearby. 230

  • Pale-skinned, horned Ōtsutsuki physiology. 166
  • Possesses Byakugan and a Rinne Sharingan in her forehead. 230 238
  • Can restore damaged clothing through Yin-Yang Release. 235
  • Her hair can transform into a dense barrage of Rabbit Hair Needles. 234

Personality

Before her mental alteration, Kaguya is arrogant, detached, and possessive of the Shinobi World, which she regards as the nursery she worked to obtain. She has little understanding of compromise, political scheming, or why her own creations would betray her. 230 232 233

Her emotional detachment is genuine but not absolute. Ensei's provocations produce annoyance, and discussion of Hagoromo and Hamura causes a visible emotional reaction. She remains unable to comprehend the affection that motivated Hagoromo's rebellion. 233 235 241

After Ensei's Yin-Yang Release seal rewrites her soul, Kaguya becomes cold toward Hagoromo and Hamura and treats Ensei as her master. She cannot form hostility toward him and willingly follows his orders. 239 240

Abilities & Skills

Immortal Ōtsutsuki Physiology

Kaguya possesses immense chakra reserves, extreme regeneration, and an immortal body.

  • Can recover from catastrophic wounds, including a chest wound that nearly cuts her in half, within seconds. 238
  • Cannot be reliably killed through ordinary injury; sealing is presented as the effective means of defeating her. 238
  • Her chakra naturally recovers following her release from the moon seal. 232
  • Her raw strength exceeds Ensei's, though poor combat experience and imperfect control prevent her from fully exploiting it. 239

Byakugan and Rinne Sharingan

Kaguya's ocular powers include the purest Byakugan and a forehead Rinne Sharingan.

  • Uses the Rinne Sharingan to cast Infinite Tsukuyomi. 235 236
  • Her Rinne Sharingan is ultimately suppressed by Ensei's Nine-Tomoe Sharingan and the combined ocular pressure of several other dōjutsu. 238
  • Her Byakugan can sense when Ensei observes her with penetrating vision. 233
  • Her Byakugan alone cannot resist Hinata Hyuga's Tenseigan ocular-power invasion. 238

Space-Time Ninjutsu

Kaguya can shift herself and others across dimensions with extraordinary speed.

  • Amenominaka — Instantly transfers herself and opponents into dimensions such as the Lava Dimension and supergravity space. 234 236
  • Yomotsu Hirasaka — Opens an escape route between dimensions; she uses it to withdraw and capture the Tailed Beasts. 236
  • Her spatial techniques are powerful but lack refinement against Ensei's Kamui and tracking. 234 238

Infinite Tsukuyomi

Kaguya can deploy the world-scale genjutsu through her Rinne Sharingan.

  • Attempts to trap Ensei in Infinite Tsukuyomi without relying on the Ten-Tails. 235
  • Her genjutsu fails when Ensei resists and manifests his own Infinite Tsukuyomi. 236
  • After absorbing the Ten-Tails, she attempts the technique again in the Beginning Ball Space. 238

Offensive Techniques

Kaguya's attacks rely on overwhelming chakra output rather than refined combat technique.

  • Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack — Delivers attacks with force comparable to ultimate techniques; its power increases after she absorbs the Ten-Tails. 233 238
  • All-Killing Ash Bones — Highly lethal ash-bone projectiles, though their charging and attack speed leave them vulnerable to evasion or spatial counters. 231
  • Rabbit Hair Needles — Transforms her hair into a wide-area needle barrage. 234
  • Magma manipulation — Floods her Lava Dimension with converging magma tides; she can be harmed by the environment she creates. 234 235

Yin-Yang Release and God Tree Techniques

Kaguya can use advanced Yin-Yang Release and draw upon the God Tree's chakra.

  • Restores damaged clothing through Yin-Yang Release. 235
  • Uses God: Tree World Birth alongside Ensei, wrapping the world's inhabitants in tree mummies and drawing their chakra through the God Tree. 241
  • Returns to her peak state when chakra from the God Tree flows into her body. 241

Karma

Kaguya possessed Karma as an Ōtsutsuki resurrection method.

  • Hagoromo and Hamura were intended as potential Karma substitutes, though Kaguya never implanted Karma in them. 239
  • Black Zetsu is described as a form of her Karma, created before her sealing. 243
  • Ensei's soul alteration removes her ability to implant Karma, eliminating her planned means of resurrection. 239

Limitations

  • Her original release leaves her below peak chakra reserves until she can recover or regain the Ten-Tails. 232
  • Despite her immense power, she lacks the combat experience and control needed to use it efficiently. 230 239
  • Ensei implants a Yin-Yang Release sealing seed into her heart while controlling her five senses. 232
  • The seal spreads as she uses chakra, eventually immobilizing her and allowing Ensei to rewrite her soul. 236 238 239
  • After the alteration, she cannot oppose Ensei or restore her former personality without another alteration of her soul. 240 243

Relationships

  • Ensei Uchiha — Initially an opponent who tries to negotiate over the Shinobi World's future; he later defeats, seals, and mentally reforms her into an obedient subordinate. 230 239 240
  • Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki — Her elder son and one of the two beings who sealed her. Following her alteration, she rejects his claim to call her “Mother.” 60 239
  • Hamura Ōtsutsuki — Her younger son and co-sealer; like Hagoromo, he was created through Yin-Yang Release. 60 233 241
  • Ōtsutsuki Isshiki — Her original partner in the Shinobi World's descent; she ambushed and betrayed him to consume the Chakra Fruit. 222 243
  • Black Zetsu — Her will and a form of Karma, created to enable her eventual return. 87 243
  • Momoshiki Ōtsutsuki — Helps break her seal alongside Kinshiki; later follows Ensei's orders during the confrontation. 230 232
  • Kinshiki Ōtsutsuki — Kaguya attempts to kill him as expendable, but Ensei stops her before Momoshiki refines him into a Chakra Fruit. 231 232

Story Role / Major Arcs

Sealed Threat

Before her physical return, Kaguya is treated as the greatest potential threat to the Shinobi World. Ensei investigates her ruins, her moon seal, and alternate dimensions while repeatedly judging her peak strength beyond his ability to confront directly. 115 159 195 222

Breaking the Moon Seal

Momoshiki and Kinshiki assist Kaguya in breaking free on the moon. Ensei offers an alliance against the Ōtsutsuki Clan if she refrains from destroying the world, but Kaguya refuses to abandon her claim over the Shinobi World. 230

Conflict with Ensei

Kaguya battles Ensei across several dimensions, using Amenominaka, magma attacks, Rabbit Hair Needles, Infinite Tsukuyomi, and the Ten-Tails. Ensei uses Mirror Flower, Water Moon to implant a Yin-Yang Release seal in her heart before the mark gradually spreads through her chakra. 232 234 236 238

Ensei's Controlled Ōtsutsuki

The completed seal strips Kaguya of Karma implantation, changes her thoughts, and places her power under Ensei's authority. She assists him in casting Infinite Tsukuyomi and God: Tree World Birth against Hagoromo's summoned souls, then helps release Infinite Tsukuyomi and free the world's living beings. 239 240 241 244
