Personality

Yang Yan is arrogant, domineering, and accustomed to using intimidation to get his way. After the Wu Family's collapse, he repeatedly pressures Wu An for homework, confident that Wu An no longer has the backing to resist him. 16

His confidence is rooted in his physicality, connections to outside-school delinquents, and his status as the class sports representative. However, once Wu An demonstrates overwhelming speed and strength, Yang Yan's bravado gives way to fear and resentment; rather than confronting Wu An again himself, he seeks help from his “big brother,” Brother Biao. 17 21 33

Yang Yan remains unable to accept Wu An's superiority. He mocks Wu An's medical diagnosis of Lu Yunxi, refuses to believe Wu An's academic performance, and later makes an overconfident public bet on Wu An failing to place in the top ten of the nine-school joint exam. 19 20 104

Background / History

Following the fall of the Wu Family, Yang Yan begins bullying Wu An openly. He demands Wu An's homework while threatening violence, relying on the class's fear of his strength and delinquent connections to prevent intervention. 16 17

When Wu An finally resists, Yang Yan orders him to kneel and apologize. Wu An instead evades Yang Yan's charge, makes him crash into a wall, and strikes him hard enough to force him to his knees in front of the class. 17 18

Humiliated, Yang Yan abandons the idea of personally retaliating and contacts Brother Biao. At the school gate, he accompanies Brother Biao and several men in confronting Wu An, but Brother Biao ultimately submits to Wu An and slaps Yang Yan for provoking him. 21 33 36

Yang Yan openly derides Wu An for declaring that Lu Yunxi is sick and demands that the teacher give Wu An a major demerit. He is stunned when Lu Yunxi confirms that Wu An accurately described her private health problems. 20
