Background / History

Boa Hancock and her younger sisters, Boa Sandersonia and Boa Marigold, were abducted by human traffickers at age twelve and sold to the Celestial Dragons. They were branded with the Hoof of the Soaring Dragon, a slave mark they concealed after being freed by Fisher Tiger. Hancock later became Amazon Lily's Empress and captain of the Kuja Pirates, spreading a false story that the mark was a petrifying curse from the Gorgon of the Central Sea. 24

Before being formally approached by the World Government, Hancock ruled Amazon Lily with unquestioned authority. Her subjects regarded her word as absolute, and the possibility of displeasing her—including by allowing a man onto the island—caused immediate fear among the Kuja. 22 28

Hancock returns from an expedition as Wu An causes alarm among Amazon Lily's inhabitants. She questions how he reached the island, while her guards attempt to execute him for being a man. 22 23

Wu An reveals that he knows the supposed “curse” on her back is actually a slave brand and offers to remove it. Although shocked and initially suspicious, Hancock chooses to trust him. 23 24

Removal of the Slave Mark

Hancock allows Wu An to treat her with silver-needle acupuncture despite her sisters' objections. After roughly half an hour, the Hoof of the Soaring Dragon disappears completely from her back. 25

Grateful for her liberation, Hancock publicly announces that “Divine Doctor Wu An” cured her curse. She then asks him to remove the marks from Sandersonia and Marigold, which he does an hour later. 25 26

World Government Confrontation

When the World Government demands that Hancock join the Shichibukai, she seeks Wu An's advice. He tells her to accept only after establishing sufficient authority through a display of strength. 26

Hancock mobilizes the Kuja Pirates against the arriving warship. During Wu An's battle with the marines, she worries for his safety and prepares to intervene if necessary. 26 27

Confession and Wu An's Departure

After witnessing Wu An's strength, Hancock asks him to remain on Amazon Lily as her boyfriend. She refuses to yield to her subjects' objections and offers him equal status as King, ruling the country beside her. 27 28

Wu An declines because he must return to his own world, but promises to give her an answer in the future. Hancock resolves to wait for him as he departs through a seven-colored space-time tunnel. 28
