Background

Sasuke enters the Ninja Academy already familiar with much of its theory through Itachi’s instruction. He notices Hui’s diligence and soon becomes his friend, though he dislikes being addressed formally outside public settings. 1 5

His early friendship with Hui is defined by competition. After witnessing Hui’s Flame Explosion Technique create a massive crater, Sasuke resolves to learn the technique himself and surpass Hui’s result. Itachi later reveals that the original six-seal version is a closely guarded Uchiha secret, entrusting Sasuke to protect that knowledge. 5 8

Sasuke receives Secret Medicine with his father and Itachi’s approval, enduring severe pain as it purifies his bloodline and increases his chakra reserves. By the time he tests Flame Explosion Technique, he possesses roughly the chakra volume of five standard Chūnin, though the sudden increase forcibly expands his meridians. 25 27
