Background / History
Livini was adopted by her mother as a child and later became part of the Marshall Family, one of Enamel City's Three Great Families. Unlike a conventional bloodline inheritance, the Marshall Family's position is passed through a master-disciple structure tied to the Boa Society. The family possesses part of Lord Weiwen's legacy, including alchemical equipment, Deciphering Art, and the spirit beast known as the Serpent. 122 147
She pursued the Boa Society's path of bodily transformation to an extreme degree. Livini modified her teeth, eyes, and back; lowered her body temperature; and amputated her limbs to replace them with alchemical prosthetics, all in pursuit of an existence resembling that of a boa. 141 149
By the time Ludwig von Hastings meets her, Livini is investigating a Psionic Energy incident connected to a burned train and a runaway relic. Her prosthetic limbs have gone without proper maintenance since the death of the alchemist she relied upon, leaving her desperate to secure the help of a capable alchemist. 127 128
Later, pressure on the Marshall Family intensifies. Her cargo is seized by the Public Protection Hall, threatening a wager with the Farman Family and her leverage in the struggle for inheritance. Lude secretly returns the goods under his “Mr. Owl” identity, making himself someone Livini must negotiate with. 149 150
As the Farman Family begins testing the Marshall Family's strength, Livini enters a covenant with Mr. Owl and hires his forces. She attempts to preserve the image that the Marshall Family remains protected by Duchess Marshall, while signs suggest that her foster mother's condition—or survival—may be uncertain. 161 171 178
Appearance
Livini is a young woman with pale purple eyes, a black veil, and an aristocratic, commanding presence. Lude compares her vibrant bearing to a flamboyant purple peacock; her conspicuous brass prosthetic limbs give her an unsettling, mysterious quality. 122 127
- Pale purple or violet eyes, later identified as alchemically modified serpent eyes. 127 166
- Brass mechanical arms and legs, made with fine workmanship but suffering from Psionic corrosion, rust, and neglected maintenance. 127 128
- Cold metallic fingertips and highly dexterous prosthetic hands. 122
- Faint scales along her back, modified teeth, and a body temperature below normal human levels. 141
- A brass, centipede-like alchemical spine designed as an auxiliary processing center for her prosthetics. 166 168
Personality
Livini is proud, calculating, and accustomed to taking charge. She is quick to assess leverage, danger, and potential profit—even before entering the burned train, she raises the question of how any relic found there should be divided. 127
She favors deception and preemptive safeguards. During her first expedition with Lude, she uses an exposed arm-blade to draw attention away from her other concealed weapons, poisons him when she sees an opening, and later booby-traps a hotel floor with explosives before meeting the unknown Mr. Owl. 127 129 161
Her confidence masks substantial insecurity. The loss of her trusted alchemist, the deterioration of her prosthetics, and the Marshall Family's weakening position leave her increasingly desperate for security and greater firepower. 128 168
Despite her ruthlessness, Livini shows concern for Lude's subordinates during the conflict with the Farman Family, challenging his willingness to treat them as expendable. 176
Abilities & Skills
Boa Society Transformation
Livini has extensively altered her body through alchemy and the Boa Society's practices, adapting herself toward a serpent-like form. 141 149
- Her modified eyes, teeth, scales, and reduced body temperature are physical signs of this path. 141
- She specializes in breaking arts and uses the Boa's Opening Poison as a combat tool. 141
- Her self-amputation and prosthetic replacement were intended to make her skeletal structure resemble a snake's. 149
Alchemical Prosthetic Combat
Livini's four brass prosthetic limbs are sophisticated alchemical mechanisms capable of concealing and deploying numerous weapons. 127 128
- Her right arm alone contains at least seven narrow blades, additional mechanisms, and a custom single-shot pistol. 127
- She can deploy eight forearm blades and a palm blade, turning her arms into close-range cutting weapons. 129
- Five forearm blades can be launched as projectiles and return to reload themselves. 129
- Her prosthetics can intercept gunfire and withstand high-impact close combat. 129
- Poor maintenance leaves their internal components vulnerable to dust, rust, and Psionic Energy corrosion. 128 168
Opening Poison
Livini employs a dark-purple toxin derived from a Hydra descendant. 128
- Converts puncture wounds into fistulas and expands cuts into clean separations. 128
- Allows her blades to cut through exposed necks and other vulnerable flesh with exceptional effectiveness. 128
- Can force open wooden crates after a blade is inserted into a seam. 149
- Her hidden poison delivery systems are subtle enough that an ordinary target may not notice the attack. 129
Illumination Art
Livini has some ability in Illumination Art, particularly when confronting mental or dream-based threats. 130 131
- She casts an Illumination Art spell after recognizing the train station's repeating dream-like phenomenon. 130
- Her skill is described as incomplete or “half-baked,” limiting her effectiveness against stronger mental entities. 131
- Her familiarity with such threats makes Lude rely on her against the Phantom Owl's reality distortion. 131
Tactical and Business Acumen
Livini is an experienced negotiator within Enamel City's noble-family politics and military industry. 140 178
- Maintains a composed public facade while concealing her family's vulnerabilities. 166
- Negotiates alliances, mercenary contracts, and commercial arrangements with Lude and the Three Noble Houses. 171 172
- Recognizes the market value of the Sword of Ludwig I, but advises selling its patent rights to avoid direct competition with Sea Wolf Heavy Industry and the Cartel Consortium. 178
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Brass prosthetic limbs — Four alchemical limbs containing blades, concealed mechanisms, and firearms; their core components use alchemical metals and Resist-Steel. 127 128
- Palm blade — A short Resist-Steel blade coated in dark-purple Opening Poison. 127
- Forearm blade array — Eight deployable, angled blades, five of which can be fired and automatically returned. 129
- Single-shot Wheellock Pistol — An older firearm built into her prosthetic arm and loaded with Nickel-Iron Bullets capable of piercing supernatural armor. 168
- Mechanical-arm gun — A concealed firearm loaded with impure spiritual crystals for use against the Phantom Owl. 131
- Alchemical spine — A brass, centipede-like module using mind-integrated solidified wetware to coordinate her limbs and potentially allow autonomous combat functions. 166 167
- Explosives — Used to booby-trap the floor beneath her meeting with Mr. Owl. 161
Relationships
- Ludwig “Lude” von Hastings / Mr. Owl — Initially distrustful partners during the train-station relic incident; each attempts to trap the other. Their relationship becomes a pragmatic alliance of alchemy, business, and mutual leverage. 127 129 171 172
- Duchess Marshall — Livini's adoptive mother and the Marshall Family's Tier 6 backer. Livini's inheritance ambitions and political position depend heavily on the Duchess's status. 149 161
- Valentina — Livini's head maid, who assists with household and business matters. 140
- Valmond Farman — Head of the Farman Family and a hostile business rival testing the Marshall Family's declining strength. 170 171
- Frederick Chalban — Head of the Chalban Family and participant in the Three Noble Houses' negotiations. 170
- Sophia — Lude's associate; Livini considers targeting someone important to Lude, such as Sophia, if she cannot secure his cooperation. 128
Story Role / Major Arcs
Train Fire and Phantom Owl Incident
Livini investigates the burned train and its Psionic Energy contamination alongside Lude. They fight Charred Corpses, discover the repeating dream-like environment, and confront the Phantom Owl relic. 127 128 130
During the investigation, Livini and Lude repeatedly test one another. Livini secretly poisons him, while Lude plants a timed Fire Salt Crystal trap in her prosthetic arm. 129
She provides the firepower needed to pressure the Phantom Owl, firing multiple spiritual-energy-infused shots while Lude creates openings. The Owl escapes toward the North Sea, unaware that Lude has secretly taken the Ring of the Owl. 131 132 133
Marshall Family Business Crisis
Livini's seized cargo threatens her wager with the Farman Family and her position within the Marshall Family. Mr. Owl restores the goods and contacts her with a business proposal, creating a new source of leverage over her. 149 150
She later promotes Owl Express during a Three Noble Houses meeting, despite being frustrated by Mr. Owl's conduct and uncertain of his true identity. 171
Prosthetic Reconstruction
With her mechanical spine and limbs deteriorating, Livini seeks Lude's help. He determines that the prosthetics need a full overhaul, proposing Resist-Steel replacement parts and modernized weapon systems. 167 168
Livini requests still greater firepower, including machine guns installed in both legs. The reconstruction is expected to take roughly half a year and requires high-end alchemical materials as payment. 168
Alliance Against the Farman Family
After Valmond moves against Owl Express and refuses compensation for an injured subordinate, Livini forms a covenant with Lude. 171
She hires Lude's forces to support the Marshall Family, openly acknowledging that her family has only around thirty combat-capable casters and more than two hundred ordinary thugs against the Farman Family's superior militant faction. 172
Livini later advises Lude on the military-market potential of the Sword of Ludwig I, favoring a patent sale over direct competition with the empire's dominant arms manufacturers. 178
Trivia
- Livini dislikes being addressed as “Miss Marshall” by Lude and asks him to call her Livini because they are the same age. 127
- She studies alchemy but considers herself poorly suited to it, describing her progress as mastering only “one out of seven orifices.” 132
- Her prosthetic technology is so advanced that Lude considers adapting similar systems for his own subordinates. 167
- Lude secretly plans to add his own psychic energy to Livini's reconstructed prosthetics, intending to gain control over them. 168
