Tang Shizhe was a 20-year-old college student when he began rapidly losing weight and was diagnosed with an incurable terminal illness. After abandoning hope and spending a month compulsively consuming food, he collapsed and awakened beside Tang Yi, a naked duplicate linked to his consciousness. Inherited genetic memories identified Tang Yi as a Splitter produced by Tang Shizhe's Alien Gene. 2 3

He initially believed the gene had descended through his family line. Later, uncontrolled memory sharing with Tang Qiming—his apparent father—revealed that Tang Shizhe had been regrown from a piece of Qiming's flesh rather than naturally born. Qiming had monitored him for years, dismissed him as ordinary when his genes showed no early manifestation, and eventually sought to consume him. 290 291

Tang Shizhe converted an abandoned factory into a concealed Splitter base, organized its living quarters and study areas, and began building a workforce of duplicates under his direct command.
