Awakening

Martial Souls awaken when a child reaches six years old, ordinarily through an Awakening Array operated by a Spirit Master. Golden motes from the array enter the subject’s body before the Martial Soul manifests, often as a phantom or tangible object. 1 2 3

A Martial Soul determines whether its bearer can begin the path of a Spirit Master. Children who awaken no Innate Soul Power cannot become Spirit Masters, while a powerful Martial Soul and high Innate Soul Power provide the foundation for future cultivation. 1 2

Innate Soul Power

After awakening, a crystal ball is used to test Innate Soul Power.

• No Innate Soul Power — prevents the bearer from becoming a Spirit Master. 2

Beast Martial Souls manifest as animals, insects, or other living-creature forms. In Yu Xiaogang’s stated theoretical system, they generally lean toward offensive development. 100

Twin Martial Souls can create severe physical strain if their Spirit Rings are cultivated recklessly. Qian Xunji advises focusing on one Martial Soul first, strengthening the body through Soul Bones and Whale Rubber before cultivating the second. 6

At higher levels, a Twin Martial Souls user may gain Soul Power rapidly by attaching Spirit Rings to the second Martial Soul, provided their body can withstand the ring energy. 180

Soul Rings and Cultivation

Spirit Rings are obtained after a Spirit Master reaches a cultivation bottleneck. They provide Soul Skills and enable advancement past that level cap. 9 100

Su Mo’s hundred-thousand-year Martial Soul True Body increases the power of all his Soul Skills and personal attributes by 200%. 67

Martial Soul Evolution

A Martial Soul can evolve through exceptional circumstances, including the consumption of Immortal Herbs. Evolution can remove inherent flaws, break bloodline restrictions, or elevate a Martial Soul beyond its original form. 58 195

• Asura Demon Sword — Su Mo’s Martial Soul was recognized as god-level after its presence caused Qian Xunji’s Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul to tremble. 3
• Six-Winged Angel — before Su Mo’s awakening, it was considered the continent’s only known god-level Martial Soul. 5

Asura Demon Sword

Su Mo’s Asura Demon Sword is a dark-red God-level Tool Martial Soul associated with slaughter, blood energy, and Asura divine power. 3 66

• Absorbs blood mist and blood aura from slain beings, converting a small portion into Su Mo’s Soul Power while retaining most of it itself. 8 63

Moral Alignment

A Martial Soul is innate and does not inherently determine whether its bearer is righteous or evil. Qian Xunji and Qian Daoliu both stress that the wielder’s choices—not the Martial Soul itself—determine the path they follow. 8 11

Martial Souls with blood, death, poison, or slaughter-related traits can be used without automatically making their bearer a Fallen Soul Master; actively relying on killing or corrupt methods for cultivation is the danger. 8
