The Three Moons rose into the sky. In the passage on the goblins' side, the battle between the goblins and the rat swarm had also reached a white-hot pitch. Five junior Magic Rats and one Retainer were monitoring the battlefield, while the low-level forces of both sides crashed together inside the vast entrance hall. Behind the little goblins, several Great Goblins over 1.8 meters tall stared nervously ahead. Each of them controlled two Magic Pattern Cannon teams, ready at any moment to unleash indiscriminate canister fire.
One Great Goblin glanced at the little goblin beside him manning the cannon, knowing full well that these little things, barely a few weeks old, had no aim to speak of. They had only touched these cannons for the first time this afternoon. The original seven or eight cannon teams had somehow been silently taken out by that swarm of rats within just a few hours, causing every defensive line outside the cave to collapse completely.
The Great Goblin shook his head. Originally, a goblin artilleryman only needed one or two weeks of training, and had to follow a cannon team through one or two firings before he could operate a cannon alone. But right now there was simply no time. They could only grab a few relatively reliable little goblins and shove them into the positions.
Of course, "reliable" was only relative. At the very least, they were the ones who had survived the afternoon's battlefield. But looking at the big rats behind the little gray rats, the Great Goblin knew this could not go on. Sooner or later, the gray rats would charge through. He had to notify the Archmage as quickly as possible!
The Great Goblin handed his cannon team over to another Great Goblin, then turned and entered the corridor.
