Personality
Tang San initially acts as one of Shrek's more cautious voices. He questions Ma Hongjun's account of Lan's strength, suspects that Lan may have a powerful backer, and repeatedly argues for investigation and preparation instead of an immediate attack 53 61 95.
His confidence rests heavily on his Twin Martial Souls, Tang Sect techniques, and Shrek's collective strength. Lan's destruction of the Clear Sky Hammer severely damages that self-image; Tang San falls into despair after the battle and struggles to accept the gulf between them 101 112 171.
Xiao Wu is central to his decisions. He frantically searches for her, exchanges the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone for her release, and repeatedly loses composure when he believes she has been harmed or taken 143 162 295. However, after the canyon defeat, he privately recoils from Xiao Wu while concealing his disgust and reassuring her because he does not want to lose what she can provide him 112 113.
Following Tang Hao's death and his own losses, Tang San's focus narrows into vengeance against Lan. In Slaughter City, he embraces killing intent and accepts the Asura God's power regardless of the cost, becoming increasingly unstable after each defeat 298 411 412 458 460.
Appearance
Following his passage through Hell Road, Tang San is described as a scarred and disheveled young man with long blue hair matted by sweat and blood. He loses his left arm during the trial, leaving an empty sleeve and a severed stump 411 455.
- Initially carries himself as a refined Shrek prodigy.
- Has blue hair and a handsome face, later marked by vicious scars 411 455.
- Loses his left arm in Hell Road 411.
- Has his right arm snapped into multiple sections by the Ice Empress in Slaughter City 458.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang San possesses both Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer, a combination that initially forms the foundation of his confidence as a Soul Master 53 101.
- Blue Silver Grass / Blue Silver Emperor — Used for Binding, Spider Web Restraint, battlefield control, and poison-laced vine attacks 101 171 457.
- Clear Sky Hammer — His primary weapon Martial Soul and greatest source of pride; Lan slices it in two with the Abyssal Tide Hunter, inflicting backlash and damaging its origin 101 112.
- He later wields the Clear Sky Hammer again while fighting in Slaughter City, using Chaos Cloak against the Snow Empress and Ice Empress 457.
Blue Silver True Body
With the Seven-in-One Fusion Skill, Tang San manifests a giant Blue Silver True Body and gains power temporarily close to the Soul Sage realm 170 171.
- Uses enhanced Binding and Spider Web Restraint over much of the arena 171.
- The manifestation is frozen and suppressed by Lan's killing intent 173.
- Tang San can transfer the fusion skill's accumulated power to another Shrek member, as demonstrated when he empowers Dai Mubai 173.
Tang Sect Hidden Weapons
Tang San employs concealed weapons and poison-based attacks associated with the Tang Sect.
- Uses Sand-Shooting Shadow, firing poisoned needles at Lan 102.
- Carries hidden weapons in the Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges storage tool, including Godly Zhuge Crossbows, Silent Sleeve Arrows, and Bone-Piercing Nails 457.
- His hidden weapons are repeatedly ineffective against Lan; Lan catches poisoned needles barehanded and later returns Shrek's own weapons against them 102 256.
- His Purple Demon Eye fails to track Lan during Shadow Kill 174.
Eight Spider Lances
Tang San possesses the Eight Spider Lances External Soul Bone.
- Several lances are broken during the tournament battles against Lan 188.
- He later states that Lan stole the Eight Spider Lances along with his Soul Bone and Xiao Wu's soul ring 411.
Slaughter God's Domain and Asura Inheritance
After clearing Hell Road, Tang San awakens the Slaughter God's Domain, a killing-intent-based domain that Tang Chen says at least doubles his strength 411.
- Accepts Tang Chen's instruction to absorb the Blood Pool's killing intent for the Asura God's deeper inheritance 412.
- Gains dark crimson slaughter aura and divine support alongside his later Title Douluo power 457.
- His reliance on the Asura God's protection does not prevent his swift defeat by the Snow Empress and Ice Empress 457.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Clear Sky Hammer — Tool Martial Soul; cleaved in half by Lan in the Night Rain Canyon battle 101.
- Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone — Hundred-thousand-year Life-type soul bone left by Tang Hao's wife; Tang San trades it to Lan to secure Xiao Wu's release 162 163.
- Eight Spider Lances — External Soul Bone; damaged in battle and later claimed by Tang San to have been taken by Lan 188 411.
- Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges — Storage tool used to conceal and deploy Tang Sect hidden weapons 457.
History
Shrek's Investigation of Lan
After Ma Hongjun accuses Lan of killing Zhao Wuji, Tang San doubts that an eighteen-year-old could accomplish such a feat alone. He suspects that Lan has a powerful protector and accepts Yu Xiaogang's instruction to cultivate and investigate before pursuing revenge 53.
Tang San helps search Heaven Dou City using Lan's portrait and proposes splitting the group up for a more efficient investigation. He is explicitly warned not to confront Lan once found 61. Even when Shrek prepares an ambush at the Thread of Sky valley, Tang San urges caution because they do not understand Lan's strength or backing 95.
Night Rain Canyon Defeat
Tang San attacks Lan after seeing Xiao Wu injured, beginning with Blue Silver Grass Binding before summoning the Clear Sky Hammer. Lan's Abyssal Tide Hunter destroys the hammer and forces Tang San to kneel under the backlash 101.
The defeat leaves the Clear Sky Hammer covered in cracks and severely damages Tang San's confidence. He considers the loss not simply a battlefield defeat, but the collapse of the beliefs built around his talent and Martial Souls 112. His relationship with Xiao Wu becomes strained when he instinctively avoids her touch, then masks his reaction with reassurance 112 113.
Xiao Wu and the Soul Bone Exchange
When Xiao Wu goes missing, Tang San becomes frantic and immediately blames Lan. Though he publicly calls her his most important friend and family, he also panics over the hundred-thousand-year soul ring and soul bone associated with her 143.
To retrieve Xiao Wu, he accepts the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone from Tang Hao and brings it to the Crown Prince's Mansion. Tang San surrenders the soul bone—his mother's final relic—to Lan in exchange for Xiao Wu's release 161 162 163.
Tournament Battles and Tang Hao's Death
During the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, Tang San relies on the Shrek Seven Devils' Seven-in-One Fusion Skill to temporarily approach Soul Sage strength. He manifests the Blue Silver True Body but is overwhelmed by Lan's Martial Soul True Body and killing intent 170 171 173.
Lan later defeats the Shrek Team alone, reflects their hidden weapons back at them, crushes Tang San's right arm, and steps on the location of the Eight Spider Lances 256. When Lan kills Tang Hao, Tang San kneels beside his father's body and swears to kill Lan regardless of where he runs 261 298.
Slaughter City
Tang San survives Hell Road at the cost of his left arm and awakens the Slaughter God's Domain. Tang Chen praises both his survival and hatred, then encourages him to seek the Asura God's inheritance as a means to defeat Lan 411 412.
By the confrontation in Slaughter City, Tang San has become a Title Douluo with a hundred-thousand-year God-bestowed soul ring. He attacks the Snow Empress and Ice Empress in an attempt to force Lan to yield, but is beaten effortlessly; the Ice Empress breaks his right arm, while the Snow Empress turns his Clear Sky Hammer back against him 457 458.
Tang San watches Lan defeat and ultimately kill Tang Chen. The destruction of his great-grandfather's final hope causes him to suffer a complete psychological collapse. Lan leaves him alive, considering him too broken to be worth killing 460.
