The camera moved away from Qiu Mei and toward the old man carrying a basket of groceries.

The setting sun fell on the Old Woman. As she walked farther and farther away, the shot finally settled on her half-shadow.

Watching this, Chen Ge could no longer sit still. He had no idea how the director had filmed it. The Movie Deskmate had been shot a long time ago, when special-effects technology was still underdeveloped, yet this scene looked incredibly real.

Could this really not be a movie?

Shadows held an extraordinary significance for the living. At least, that was what Chen Ge believed.

"The heroine's Left Eye can see what's strange about living people's shadows. Wait, did the heroine's parents have shadows when they first appeared?"

Scenes from earlier in the movie flashed through his mind. The heroine's parents, including the doctor, had all been shadowless in those shots. But that could have been because of the bad weather.

At the beginning of the movie, the sky had been overcast the whole time, without a trace of sunlight. It was only natural that no shadows were visible.

After Qiu Mei and the Old Woman left, the heroine returned home. She took out her key and unlocked the door.

"Wen Yu? Why are you home so late today?" Wen Yu's mother hurried out of the kitchen. She looked at Wen Yu with a trace of heartache and a strange, indescribable emotion. It wasn't the sort of emotion one would expect from a normal parent. Chen Ge had only just noticed this.

The heroine didn't reply. The moment she stepped inside, she seemed to lose all her energy, as though even breathing made her uncomfortable.
