A phone vibrated in the movie. Qiu Mei, who was organizing some materials, turned and picked it up. Without checking the caller ID, she answered.
"Hello, who is this?"
"We just talked. I looked at the information on your profile and saw you'd left a phone number, so I thought I'd give it a try." A boy's voice came from the phone. He sounded young, probably going through puberty.
"Just now?" Only then did Qiu Mei glance at the screen. "Are you Nonexistent Person?"
"That's my screen name."
"Why would you give yourself a name like that?"
"What name I give myself doesn't matter. What matters is that I managed to reach you." The boy deliberately lowered his voice, as if that would make him sound more mature and mysterious.
"The phone number I left is real. Is it really so surprising that you got through? Have you called other girls before and been tricked by them?" Wen Yu didn't take what the boy said seriously.
"I'm talking to you on a dead person's phone. The fact that the call went through at least proves that part of what you said was true."
"That's a pretty strange way to verify it." Wen Yu's tone grew much cooler. The boy's words hadn't frightened her. "Tell me, what do you want?"
"I just want to save your life. I'm afraid you're going to your death." The boy was young, but he seemed to have seen a lot.
"Going to my death?"
"You went through so much trouble to escape from there. Why would you go back? I know you can't remember a lot of things, but have you ever considered that your memories might have been the price you paid to get out?" The boy tried to talk her out of it.
