The girl's voice suddenly turned shrill. The Severed Hand hidden in the bushes lunged at Chen Ge like a venomous snake striking at its prey.
"Don't panic." Chen Ge clenched his fist, a Nail protruding from it. He waited for the hand to spring at him, then brought his fist down hard.
"I'm so cold! I'm right beneath your feet! Help me! Hel—ah!" The girl's hysterical cries were cut short by a shriek.
"Are you all right?" Chen Ge looked down at the Severed Hand.
It was a beautiful hand, with slender fingers and pale, smooth skin. The only blemish was the sharp Nail piercing the back of it, pinning it firmly to the dirt.
"Where are you buried? I just saw a Severed Hand. Is this yours?" Chen Ge opened his hand, his palm slick with sweat. He'd actually been startled too, but luckily, he'd prepared well beforehand.
The pleas for help in the woods fell silent. Only a woman's shrill cries of pain remained.
"Does it really hurt that much? I've been pricked several times along the way too." Chen Ge cautiously surveyed his surroundings and slowly backed away. There was a Severed Hand in the woods, which meant there might be other things here as well.
The girl's voice grew clearer and clearer. Chen Ge's ears twitched slightly. He had the Ghost Ear talent, which gave him hearing far beyond that of ordinary people and let him hear ghosts whispering. It seemed to be working now.
"She's to my left." Chen Ge reached into his pocket and pulled out another Nail. He had to make sure he always had one in his hand.
The arm pinned to the ground kept bouncing up and down. The girl seemed to have been enraged, and her voice began to change.
