Background / History

Sasuke is an Uchiha survivor driven by the memory of seeing his older brother, Itachi, kill their parents. He believes his purpose is to gain enough strength to kill Itachi and uncover the truth behind the Uchiha clan’s destruction. Uchiha Gen’s evasiveness about the massacre later makes Sasuke question whether the events he witnessed are the whole story 18 41.

During Orochimaru’s invasion of Konoha, Uchiha Gen abducts Sasuke because of his Sharingan. Sasuke remains hostile and repeatedly attempts to escape, but Gen warns him that Orochimaru intends to use him as a vessel and ultimately gives him six months to become strong enough to protect his eyes 9 11 13. Gen releases him when Jiraiya and Kakashi catch up, leaving Sasuke with more questions about the Uchiha clan and Gen’s identity 14 15.

Afterward, Sasuke asks Kakashi to train him rather than seek an immediate shortcut to power. Kakashi agrees to teach him on the condition that Sasuke avoids destroying himself through reckless training 17. Personality

Sasuke is proud, intensely competitive, and dissatisfied with his own progress. Naruto’s growth repeatedly gives him a sense of crisis, pushing him to train harder rather than remain passive 36 49. Although he can be dismissive and blunt—particularly toward Naruto—he becomes more controlled over time.
