Background / History

Konoha was founded to end the Warring States-era practice of children killing one another. Its founding ideal, the Will of Fire, defines the village’s younger generation as its future and calls on older ninja to protect them. 1 32

In Konoha’s first year, Uchiha Madara reportedly persuaded the Uchiha to set aside their hatred and help build the village. The following year, he urged them to leave with him, but the clan chose the stability of village life instead; Madara departed alone. 14

The village retained the Nine-Tails after the First Hokage distributed other Tailed Beasts among the major villages. Uzumaki Mito contained it for decades through her Uzumaki constitution, personal strength, and sealing mastery. 10
