Background / History

Kushina is an Uzumaki Clan survivor from the destroyed Uzu Village. Brought to Konoha as an orphan, she initially conceals the fate of her homeland from her academy classmates. She transfers into the Konoha Ninja Academy declaring her dream to become the first female Hokage, but is immediately bullied over her red hair and outsider status. Uchiha Ling intervenes, validates her dream, and helps her begin forming ties in Konoha. 4

She trains with Ling to improve her hand seals and introduces him to her grandmother, Mito Uzumaki. Mito approves of their friendship, while Kushina comes to regard Ling and Namikaze Minato as her closest academy companions. 5 6 7

Kumogakure ninja later abduct Kushina because of her suitability as a future Nine-Tails vessel. Ling rescues her at severe personal cost, deepening her trust, guilt, and reliance on him. 7 8 13

As Mito nears death, she names Kushina as her successor. Kushina accepts the burden after Mito frames it as a responsibility to protect Konoha, becoming the village’s second Nine-Tails jinchūriki at the cost of Mito’s life. 19

Kushina struggles with the Nine-Tails’ hostile emotions and the restrictions imposed on her life in the name of protection. Ling supports her, promises to one day free her from Konoha’s confinement, and later successfully secures the removal of her routine surveillance and movement restrictions. 20 43 44 69

After Ling acquires Kyoka Suigetsu, Kushina agrees to his plan to remove the Nine-Tails safely. The extraction succeeds, leaving her physically weakened but ecstatic to be free of the beast’s presence and its constant whispers. 125 127
