The contents of the Great Wilderness Scripture were ancient and profound; every word and sentence was unfathomably mysterious. It was another world Zhang Tie had never encountered before, filled with spells, hand seals, visualization methods, casting rituals, and entirely new interpretations of the relationship between man, heaven and earth, and all living things—things Zhang Tie had never heard of or seen before. The so-called Beast Tamer was naturally a name coined in the present age. From the emergence of Beast Tamers until today, their history amounted to only a little over seven hundred years. Yet humanity's time living alongside heaven and earth, all things, and every kind of animal and beast was so distant it could no longer be verified. According to a widely known view of this era, humans had existed on this planet for at least more than six million years.

Before Beast Tamer emerged as this new profession, humanity naturally had its own ways of getting along with heaven and earth and all living things. The Great Wilderness Scripture recorded precisely such ways for humans to coexist with the various animals and beasts of nature. Thus, the contents of this book had long surpassed the limits of how this age defined the abilities of the special profession known as Beast Tamer.

For the way humans dealt with all kinds of animals was not as simple as merely commanding beasts. Much of what the book contained, in Zhang Tie's view, was already similar to what certain shamans, priests, and sorcerers were said to do in legend.
