If one did not look closely, it would have been difficult to imagine that Tokei City was a human city that had already fallen into the hands of the Devil Race.
As the former capital of the Titanic Duchy, Tokei City's prosperity went without saying. At least in Zhang Tie's eyes, this city was far more prosperous than Black Flame City had ever been. Its streets were broad, and the buildings lining them were both neat and distinctive. The sculptures scattered everywhere throughout the city were an even greater hallmark.
It was around three in the afternoon, normally the busiest time in any city. Tokei City was indeed bustling; the streams of pedestrians flowing along both sides of the streets seemed no fewer than those in any other human city.
The sight before him left Zhang Tie dazed for an instant. But soon, he noticed what was wrong with the city—there were many people on the streets, yet it was far too quiet. Aside from pedestrians' footsteps, Zhang Tie could scarcely hear any other sound from inside the car. Even those footsteps had been deliberately softened. The silent streets stood in stark, jarring contrast to the teeming crowds, creating a chilling sensation.
Besides the silence, Zhang Tie also noticed that over ninety percent of the pedestrians on both sides of the street were walking as close as possible to the far left side of the sidewalk. Hardly anyone walked against the flow. Even where the sidewalk and the road beside it were obviously congested, and wider paths were available nearby, everyone still obeyed this rule, squeezing themselves as far left as they could.
Among those crowds packed along the left side, Zhang Tie saw that every one of them wore a yellow marker on their arm, like an armband or
