In the world as perceived through a rat's senses, everything was new to Zhang Tie. In his eyes, everything had become enormous.
Zhang Tie discovered that he could only see clearly for about ten meters; anything farther away became blurry. At that moment, he finally understood what "rat-eyed and short-sighted" meant. Yet compared to his sluggish vision, his sense of smell and hearing had become incredibly sharp. He could easily distinguish all kinds of scents and had become sensitive to distant sounds. Zhang Tie could also feel that his teeth were exceptionally sharp, and he suddenly seemed to be remarkably skilled at crawling. It was as if he even understood the language and methods by which rats communicated.
Zhang Tie ran two circles around his own body, looking himself over from front to back. The sensation was endlessly novel. Once he had adapted to this rat incarnation, he slipped through the cell door and ran toward the outside of the torture chamber.
The doors to both the cell and the torture chamber were made from steel bars as thick as an arm. The gaps between them were tiny, only wide enough for a fist to pass through, but to Zhang Tie's rat incarnation, those gaps were still far too large.
As he passed through the gap between the cell bars, Zhang Tie looked up and felt as if he were passing through the gateway of some towering giant.
After slipping through two cell doors, Zhang Tie quickly reached the corridor outside the torture chamber.
Come to think of it, this was the first time Zhang Tie had left the "VIP suite" he had been enjoying all to himself these past few days.
This seemed to be inside a castle. The corridor outside was dimly lit, with large grayish-brown stone blocks
