Background / History

Minato became an orphan after bandits slaughtered the families of villagers waiting for a mission squad to return. He was left grieving alone near a waterfall until Hyuga Shinichi reached out to him. 13

Shinichi formally adopted Minato as his younger brother, giving him a home and a family bond Minato came to rely upon completely. Shinichi later recommended him to Jiraiya, who accepted Minato as a disciple after witnessing his talent and three innate chakra natures. 14 25 40

Although capable of graduating early, Minato completed the Ninja Academy through the standard process and became a Genin. He later joined Shinichi's squad alongside Uzumaki Kushina and Shirakumo Hayama. 96 157

During Kushina's abduction by Kumogakure ninja, Minato followed the trail of red hair she left behind, rescued her, and defeated the Cloud Jonin Torei. The battle awakened his Light Release and established his reputation as the “True Yellow Flash.” 143 149 150 151
