Xie Wushuang drove the off-road vehicle at high speed across the Wasteland, her expression flat and indifferent. If one looked closely, however, her red lips seemed to be moving incessantly:
"Would that be too bad? Too cruel. What does it matter? He was the one in the wrong first anyway. But come to think of it, I was the one who stole his car first? Still, he touched my leg, and I haven't even had a boyfriend yet..."
It seemed as if a devil and an angel were warring in her mind, and Xie Wushuang's eyes shifted constantly.
But in the end, the two sides reached an agreement; her gaze returned to calm, and she nodded:
"He can't escape anyway."
Xie Wushuang flipped her hand to produce a test tube, inside which a small clump of black flesh was writhing; the flesh, soaked in a special solution, had already begun to exude an orange-yellow liquid.
Her eyes flashed:
"So it really is here?"
Stowing the test tube away, Xie Wushuang adjusted her course using a handheld computer and continued driving deeper into the Wasteland.
She tossed the tablet to the side, noticing a crumpled map lying there.
Casually pulling the map out, she glanced at it once before throwing it out the window.
What era was this to still be using such primitive things?
The map drifted out the window, fluttering behind the off-road vehicle before falling to the ground, where it lay quietly on the black earth.
Screech—
The sound of braking came from the distance, followed by an engine roar approaching from afar.
Two pairs of off-road tires reversed rapidly, growing larger until they came to a stop nearby.
Silver boots stepped out of the vehicle and walked over to the map, followed by a hand as white as jade that picked it up.
Xie Wushuang straightened her back and unfolded the map:
"Hmm... Lichuan."
She rolled the map back up, got back into the vehicle, and sped away.
Chen Chong turned his head slowly to see a familiar figure climbing up from the top of the slope.
Liu Xun.
He was leaning on his blade, appearing extremely weak. Scattered about him were many members of the Skull Gang, including the bald leader.
Liu Xun frowned, his voice hoarse:
"Where have you been hiding all this time? Why are you only coming out now? There was the sound of an off-road vehicle earlier? Did you see who it was? Calculating the time, reinforcements should be arriving soon... it wouldn't be the Skull Gang, would it? You, go take a look, quickly!"
He asked in a rapid-fire succession, looking quite anxious; it was clear that he was in a terrible state after the great battle.
This guy actually wiped out the opposition all by himself... wait, Thunder Dragon reinforcements are arriving soon?
Chen Chong's heart tightened. Looking at the Skull Gang off-road vehicle in the distance, he instinctively wanted to run toward it.
But just as he took a step, his feet stopped.
He remembered that it was he who had personally slashed all the tires on that vehicle... Chen Chong's expression turned extremely ugly.
"What are you doing?"
Liu Xun said coldly:
"Give me the supplies you're carrying! For deserting the battle for so long, I'm going to report you to the General Manager... Hey, they're here, they're here!"
Liu Xun suddenly turned his head to look at the horizon with excitement.
Chen Chong furrowed his brows and strode to the top of the gentle slope to peer over, seeing several off-road vehicles speeding toward them. Judging by the color... it was Thunder Dragon.
Liu Xun laughed heartily and was just about to stand straight to wave when his body suddenly tilted and he was yanked to the ground.
He was shocked, but his reaction was swift; he turned around, ready to draw his blade, but his body stiffened.
A handgun was pressed against his forehead.
"Chen Chong, what do you think you're doing? Where did you get a gun? How dare you point it at me?"
Liu Xun said coldly:
"Put the gun down, and I might still put in a good word for you with the General Manager—"
"Do you like having a gun pointed at you?"
Chen Chong interrupted him.
Liu Xun's face darkened:
"What are you talking about? If I hadn't killed everyone in the Skull Gang by myself and exhausted all my strength, even if you had a gun..."
"Do you like having a gun pointed at you? Answer me."
Chen Chong's gun pressed down violently, forcing Liu Xun's head halfway into the dirt.
Feeling the painful pressure of the handgun against his forehead and the immense strength behind it, Liu Xun's expression changed instantly:
"Y-you..."
"Speak. I'll ask you one last time: do you like having a gun pointed at you?"
"I don't! I don't! Please, show mercy."
Liu Xun looked into Chen Chong's icy eyes, his body trembling.
"That's right. I don't like it either."
Thwip.
With a short, muffled sound, a bloody hole appeared in Liu Xun's forehead.
His eyes were still filled with fear and disbelief.
Chen Chong poked his head over the ridge to glance at the convoy.
Clearly, they had already spotted this battlefield and were approaching fast.
After a final assessment of the possibility of hiding or fleeing... Chen Chong shook his head.
Without a vehicle, one could not escape the pursuit of a convoy in the Wasteland, and he was not that woman.
To be honest, killing Liu Xun now carried a fair amount of risk.
But the risk of not killing him was even greater.
Besides, he had been feeling stifled, and this dead man had kept running his mouth the whole time.
However, Chen Chong had already formulated a plan before pulling the trigger. He pulled his head back, confirmed there were no witnesses playing dead among the corpses, and casually fired a few more shots into some of the bodies to stage the scene slightly.
Afterward, he carefully hid the pistol in the innermost secret pocket of his clothes and rubbed his face.
Chen Chong stood up from the top of the ridge.
He actually ran down the slope toward the oncoming off-road vehicles, intercepting them halfway.
He needed to stall for time and let Liu Xun's body cool down.
The convoy came to a halt, and several people approached Chen Chong.
The leader was none other than Long Zhibin.
He had actually come in person?
Chen Chong felt a jolt in his heart, but he put on an expression of being saved:
"General Manager!"
"You're the one who came last month... Chen Chong, right?"
Long Zhibin searched his memory.
He could even remember that?
Chen Chong was secretly shocked, then rattled off a string of words:
"That's right, General Manager, you actually remember me! I'm so honored. We only met once, I never expected you to remember me. You're such a busy man, dealing with so many things every day—"
Long Zhibin had intended to be patient, but he eventually interrupted Chen Chong:
"Enough. Why are you here alone? Where are the others?"
"The others..."
Chen Chong put on a look of lingering fear:
"General Manager, listen to me—"
Chen Chong dragged out a story.
First, they encountered a Black Earth Dragon, then the Skull Gang, and in the middle of the fierce battle, they encountered a mysterious woman who suppressed everyone.
What could have been explained in a single sentence, Chen Chong rambled on about for a long time.
"...I hid in a hole in the ground. I saw that woman asking where the Black Earth Dragon was; whoever couldn't answer, she shot dead on the spot."
"Black Earth Dragon?"
Long Zhibin raised his voice instantly, then quickly composed his expression:
"What about her in the end? She didn't discover you? That must have been someone from a major corporation."
"I felt like I was discovered. But she seemed to have found something else, so she immediately drove away. Sigh, I almost—"
"Which way did she go?"
Long Zhibin interrupted directly.
"It should be in that direction."
Chen Chong pointed.
"Move!"
Long Zhibin got straight into his vehicle and led the main force speeding off in the direction Chen Chong had pointed.
Watching Long Zhibin lead the convoy to bypass the gentle slope, Chen Chong was stunned for a moment.
This General Manager seemed to place extraordinary importance on both uninvited guests and the words "Black Earth Dragon."
It was fortunate he hadn't gone directly up the slope to inspect; the others certainly lacked his keen eye.
Besides, the winter wind of the Wasteland was so bitter that Liu Xun should have been frozen stiff by now after being left out for a while.
Leaving one vehicle behind to clean up the battlefield, Chen Chong, as a survivor, leaned against the car, glanced at the fuel gauge, and sighed silently.
The corpses, stiffened by the freezing wind, were carried over one by one. Chen Chong and this vehicle waited for more members of the Thunder Dragon Company to arrive before they all rode back together.
Back to the compound, back to the cage.
"Xie Wushuang..."
Sitting in the car with his head resting against the window, Chen Chong watched the unchanging wilderness outside and murmured to himself.
He felt no great hatred in his heart.
There was no point in hating someone far stronger than oneself.
The weak complained that others were too strong; the strong only loathed their own weakness.
Chen Chong did not hate her at all. He simply wanted to wait until he could leave the Wasteland, continue to grow stronger, find Xie Wushuang, torture the location she feared most out of her, and then shove her into an off-road vehicle, weld the throttle shut, and send her speeding toward that very place.
But he recalled the image of her dancing around the Black Earth Dragon like a fluttering butterfly at the edge of the world.
As his fists clenched and unclenched, Chen Chong whispered to himself.
What must he do?
To possess that kind of power?
