Nature and Cultivation Role

Soul Beasts were the foundation of the traditional Soul Master cultivation system. Soul Masters required Soul Rings to cross realm bottlenecks, and Soul Beast-derived rings could provide Soul Skills through compatibility between a beast's rule-based abilities and a Soul Master's Martial Soul 1 15.

History

Collective Extinction

All Soul Beasts except those already transformed into human form died simultaneously overnight. They were crushed by an unseen force; their bodies and souls vanished, leaving no corpses behind 1 4. Their released Soul Rings briefly illuminated the continent before dissipating and returning their Soul Power to heaven and earth, sharply increasing ambient Soul Power density 1.

The extinction affected every known habitat, including the Star Dou Great Forest, Sunset Forest, the Far North Ice Plains, oceans, deserts, and plant- and animal-type Soul Beast territories 8 12. Divine Realm gods investigated but could neither determine the cause nor restore the extinct population 1.

Collapse of the Old System

The Heaven Dou Empire, Star Luo Empire, and Martial Soul Hall initially concealed the full truth, publicly describing the event as a mass disappearance in order to prevent unrest 4 8 29. Martial Soul Hall later confirmed the extinction to scholars and organized research into alternative paths of cultivation 12.

For eleven years, most Soul Masters remained trapped at their bottlenecks despite the increased Soul Power density. Martial Soul Hall's Creation Institute failed to produce a practical replacement for Soul Beast-derived Soul Rings during that period 42 46.

Artificial Soul Beast Creation

A young Soul Master later succeeded in awakening a gray wild rabbit into a newborn Soul Beast and used it to obtain a Self-Condensed Soul Ring 43 44. The researcher was identified as Lin Yue, who developed the Soul Beast Catalyzing Technique after repeated experiments 68 71.

Lin Yue concluded that only animals with an innate potential to awaken could be catalyzed. He successfully produced a second Soul Beast—a mouse—after more than two hundred attempts 68. The technique was made public, allowing Soul Beasts to be artificially created again 71 72.

Later Era

Artificial Soul Beasts offered a renewed source of Soul Rings and, if raised long enough, potentially Soul Skills. A catalyzed Soul Beast generally needed at least eight to ten years of growth before developing a Soul Skill 70. Despite this development, the original Soul Beast population never returned 180.

Soul Beast Catalyzing Technique

The Soul Beast Catalyzing Technique bypasses the altered natural laws that prevent animals and plants from awakening on their own.

• A suitable animal must possess innate potential for Soul Beast awakening 68.
• The catalyst actively infuses the animal with Soul Power to trigger its awakening 44.
• Newly catalyzed Soul Beasts can provide Soul Rings, though their quality may initially be low 43 68.
• Raising a catalyzed Soul Beast increases its age and may allow it to develop a Soul Skill 68 70.
• Xiao Wu viewed the technique with mixed feelings: it ensured that Soul Beasts would not vanish completely, but many created beasts were killed for rings immediately after awakening 72.

Known Human-Form Soul Beasts

• Xiao Wu — A Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast who took human form before the extinction event; she survived and could self-condense Soul Rings 3 5.
• Ah Yin — A Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Soul Beast who took human form; she later sacrificed herself to save Tang Hao 163.
