Background and History

Tsunade is the granddaughter of the First Hokage and grand-niece of the Second Hokage, giving her exceptional standing as the Senju Clan's princess. The elders of Konoha consider both her lineage and her status as a Sannin too influential to challenge directly. 103 224

The deaths of her younger brother Nawaki and her lover Dan Katō devastated her. Both had dreamed of becoming Hokage, and their deaths left Tsunade fearful of that ambition in those close to her; she also developed hemophobia and spent years wandering and gambling rather than remaining in Konoha. 103 231

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Hiruzen Sarutobi summoned Tsunade to Konoha's camp.
