Background

Tsunade earned immense prestige during the wars as one of Konoha's Sannin. Her medical work saved countless wounded shinobi, and she was uniquely capable of neutralizing Chiyo's poisons on the Land of Wind battlefield. 13

The deaths of her younger brother Nawaki and her lover Dan left her deeply traumatized. Nawaki's dream of becoming Hokage became especially painful to her, while the losses contributed to her hemophobia and rejection of Konoha's political life. 13 75

When Ye Ning arrived in Konoha, he found Tsunade drunk at her residence. She initially tried to force him to abandon his ambition to become a shinobi by attacking him, only stopping after he demonstrated that he already knew ninjutsu.
