Background / History

Madara and Senju Hashirama first met amid the conflict between their clans. After losing brothers and enduring the clans’ forced hostility, Madara reconciled with Hashirama and helped found Konoha. His later discovery of the Uchiha stone tablet led him to oppose Hashirama again, convinced that he had learned the true nature of the shinobi world. 296

In his final years, Madara hid beneath a cliff in Kirigakure while his body decayed around life-sustaining tubes. He regarded the Uchiha clan with conflicted pride and resentment: it had once been his source of honor, but he believed it had also betrayed him. 127

Seeking someone to continue his plan, Madara had White Zetsu locate Obito Uchiha, whom he considered emotionally sincere and gifted with promising eyes. He abducted Obito, revealed his identity, displayed Susanoo, and personally trained him. Madara then ordered Zetsu to create a crisis that would draw Rin from Konoha, intending for Obito to witness Rin’s death at Kakashi’s hands and awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan. 128 158 159 164 170

Madara’s Eye of the Moon Plan called for gathering the Tailed Beasts, reviving the Ten-Tails, becoming its jinchūriki, and using the Rinnegan to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi. His stated goal was to impose an eternal, conflict-free illusion upon the entire world. 170

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Madara returned through Impure World Reincarnation and overwhelmed the Allied Forces. After Shisui’s sealing attempt exposed the limitations of his reincarnated body, Madara released the technique himself, arranged his resurrection, reclaimed his Rinnegan, and eventually became the Ten-Tails’ jinchūriki. 280 286 287 291

His final battle with Ye Ning shattered his confidence in his own Six Paths power. Madara is intensely proud, cold, and dismissive of opponents he considers inferior. He refers to the Allied Forces as “brats,” treats thousands of elite shinobi as entertainment, and is invigorated rather than deterred by powerful enemies. 281 283 286

His rivalry with Hashirama remains central to his identity. Madara measures others against Hashirama’s strength, takes immediate interest in Tsunade because of her Senju heritage, and struggles to accept being surpassed again after reaching the Six Paths level. 282 291 294

Madara is also patient and calculating. He spent years preparing the Eye of the Moon Plan, selected Obito for his emotional vulnerability, and manipulated events to force Obito’s ocular evolution.
