Background / History

Shugo is the son of Uchiha Obito and Tsunade. At five years old, he lived with his parents in New Hidden Village, where his mischievousness and quick thinking regularly let him outmaneuver Obito; Tsunade remained the parent capable of keeping him in line. 121

He was raised with an unusually intensive education. Shisui taught him taijutsu, while Itachi taught him ninjutsu and genjutsu; both served as his sparring partners. Shugo had also accompanied them on missions from the age of five, giving him practical experience well beyond that of ordinary academy students. 123 186

Though he initially resisted attending the Ninja Academy, Shugo transferred to Konoha alongside Tsunade. He quickly became notorious among the students after dueling Naruto, defending Sasuke, and displaying abilities that surpassed normal academy-level combat. 121 126 127

Shugo entered Konoha’s Ninja Academy despite initially rejecting the idea. He became known as one of the class’s two “freaks” alongside Naruto, defeated Naruto in their first formal duel, and established himself as Sasuke’s protector and Hinata’s desk mate. 121 126 130

During team assessments, Iruka selected Shugo as captain of Team 8. Shugo organized his weaker teammates through merit-based squad-leader rotations and actively encouraged Hinata when she struggled. 141 142

Summer Training

Jiraiya trained Shugo and Naruto outside Konoha, teaching them the Summoning Technique. Shugo immediately summoned Gamabunta, survived the toad’s attempt to throw him off, revealed Wood Release, and secured Gamabunta as his summon. 151 152

Chūnin Exam

As a New Hidden Village contestant and heir to the Land of Tang, Shugo entered the practical Chūnin Exam alongside Deidara and others. He used Wood Release to navigate the examination grounds, rescued Sasuke and Sakura, and healed Sasuke’s severe injuries. 169 177 182

Shugo faced Naruto in the final battle royale and retained the upper hand even after Naruto combined Sage Mode with the Eight Gates.
